I've lost count on all the Abners there are in Ft. Thomas! LOL I believe, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there are 2 Abners who are cousins.

LOL, good one Ram, that is most probably what a "APAC" is but I can tell you this much, Wayne Hall ain't no "get back" coach.

 

Pretty sure the dude was an All American OL at Thomas More and on top of it he can instruct. :thumb:

There are and has been 2 Abner's on the team for the last few years. Andrew "Cowboy" is Jimmy's son and John "Big Country" is Teddy's son. This will be the last of the Abner's until Mick's son is ready to play football.

How big of a kid is Jordan? If he can tackle and cover I'm sure he will get some snaps.

 

LOL, you missed the most important factor of being a Defensive back for the Birds. Kids have to be smart to play the defensive scheme that Highlands plays.

 

The average armchair qb sits in the stands on Fri nites and think that just because this kid or that kid is within 5yrds of a receiver then that kid got burnt or is just not a very good DB. Usually if a kid at Highlands especially a Safety gets beat its because he is trying to cover a breakdown in the coverage.

 

I can't go into detail on Highlands coverage packages but my point in this whole message is the DB's at Highlands must be SMART:thumb:

 

Size, speed, the ability to cover and tackle doesn't hurt but I have seen some kids that simply do not get the defensive back sets and rotations. Just sayin...

Just responding to 50YL's question about JJ obtaining a starting role in the defensive backfield. Was trying to be nice since I don't personally know the kid or have seen him at any 7 on 7's this summer. Figured if he could cover and tackle he could get some snaps back there on the Varsity level since he must be decent enough that 50 is questioning if he should be starting @ Highlands.

I heard JJ was spotted holding a clipboard and watching from the sideline. Apparently he is trying to transfer over from Simon Kenton because he wants to play DB and get a D1 scholarship and knew that would never happen at SK. KHSAA is holding things up.

 

Oops, sorry ... JJ actually wants to improve his ACT score at Highlands. Yeah, that's the ticket. That's why he is trying to transfer.

My wife was telling me that JJ secured the very last dorm room at the Bluebird Commons. With the addition of the new Fieldhouse and much improved Fall & Spring Sport fields, it's becoming evident that we must build another set of dorms for our "Student Athletes" Yeah I'm just saying. ...

So to try and get this thread back on point, I will attempt to clear up the Jordan Johnson situation. JJ has been at Highlands since the 7th grade I believe. He has been a member of the football team the last 2 years as well as the basketball team. According to some of the kids in his grade, he told them that he was transferring after the last school year. I know that he showed up a few times for basketball in the summer and until a few days ago, did not realize that he was back playing football. Now lets talk about what Robocop wanted to talk about.

Oh yeah, Highlands defense. The seniors, they look good, as does everybody else. Seriously, how could one tell since it's just going through motions at the moment. Trinity scrimmage in 2 weeks. Will know then if this team gets compared to the 20n10 team. There's a word out there that is slipping my mind right now to describe this group. It will come, I'm sure. For now, just sayin!

"Just going through the motions"??? That doesn't sound like any HHS defense and I'm sure you didn't mean it that way.
