The SEC is hard enough as it is for Kentucky to go out and play top 5-10 teams. Although a Stoops brothers showdown against Oklahoma would be enticing, UK just isn't up to par yet and it would be bad news to play an even tougher schedule than they do now. However, someone on their level wouldn't be that bad. If the SEC implements the rule of OOC games coming from the BCS conferences then I would want games like you mentioned above. If you have three OOC games, I would love to keep UL as one (have to keep UL). From there I would like UNC, UCLA, or Kansas (because of the basketball factor). Virginia Tech? Georgia Tech? Baylor? Maryland? But overall I think you nailed it with Cinci, IU, Illinois, or West Virginia. Those are all games I would love to see along with UL, and UNC. UL, UNC/UCLA, and IU/Cinci/WVU would be the ideal OOC schedule for me. Tough games, but games you have a chance in (unlike OU, OSU, FSU, etc.)
July 30, 201412 yr I believe for right now U.K. would be far better off to schedule all of the "confidence" teams / wins that they can. No way possible in the next few years are the Cats going to contend for a major bowl game and/or the SEC title, east division. A team has to believe they can win and winning breeds confidence. I saw where some said Boise, that could be a possibility due to and since C. Peterson left. Marshall would be a good one imo. In the future years I would definitely consider VA. Tech, Penn State, UNC, WVU or Virginia just to name a few. I feel all o those would be a good gate, could go home and home and really wouldn't be too far for either fan base to travel / drive for an OOC Game. I am old enough to remember when U.K. Played Penn State and VA. Tech annually (70's). For right now though, the Cats are in need of all of the W's they can find.

July 30, 201412 yr OSU at Paul Brown Stadium. Night game. 50/50 ticket distribution. FWIW, Kentucky and Ohio State have played three times before, but the last time was in 1935. And Ohio State is 3-0 in the series. So I'm guessing that series won't be rekindled any time soon!
July 30, 201412 yr I am old enough to remember when U.K. Played Penn State and VA. Tech annually (70's). The biggest difference between now and then is the number of SEC games teams are required to play. In the 1970s teams only played six conference games, which freed up two spots on the schedule that aren't there now. And comparing the 70s game to today is totally different, too. College football is still regional, but it was even more regional then. The difference between regional scheduling today and forty years ago is that team schedule lower tier regional opponents now.

July 31, 201412 yr I really like the UC and UNC ideas to include both football and basketball. I would add Miami(Oh) and OU along with IU and the Illini. The UC-UK football games back in the early 90s were a lot of fun. :dancingpa
July 31, 201412 yr If UK was any good at all they were sell out every game. Over the past few years UK has sold out a handful of women's basketball games, had thousands of people show up for volleyball games and gymnastic events. If they were to be competitive and pull off an upset here or there the fan base will come roaring back. UK fans want to care about football a lot. It just gets really tough to sometimes with the results over the years. Not to many people are willing to pay 40 bucks to see a 20 point loss. Heck, according to Wikipedia, the UK game was the only game UL sold out in 2012. But the other homes games were very close to capacity.

To assume they would drive farther for a game they are less likely to win, and in large numbers is a stretch...

Maybe back in the 70s when Louisville was just emerging as a state school after being an independent city-funded school all it's life, but these days it's just nonsense.

When I was at UK there was a ton of Louisville fans from Louisville who went to UK from school. The general consensuses from them was that in Louisville it was probably split 60/40 in favor of Louisville. Would you agree or disagree?

Would you agree or disagree? 60/40 still seems too high to me, but way better than the notion that there are more Cats fans than Cards fans in Louisville. I mean UK wouldn't even sell out their annual games with IU at Freedom Hall. And that's for their beloved basketball Cats.
