July 24, 201412 yr That's right just 2 games. They might as well get rid of other suspensions if players like Josh Gordon get suspended 1 year for failed drug tests, coaches suspended for "knowing" about bounties on other players, etc. Sad precedent the NFL is putting out there IMO.
July 24, 201412 yr :lol2: I agree. I don't mind the suspensions for repeated drug offenders, but this guy deserved more than 2 games.
July 24, 201412 yr My money is on Pearce being the featured back all season. I think he's better than Rice anyways, and this finally gives him his shot to prove it.
July 24, 201412 yr For his arrest during the offseason. He misses games against the Bengals and Steelers.
July 24, 201412 yr Of course, this seems like homerism, and maybe it is, but how does Roethlisberger get twice that with no physical evidence? IMO, the system of doling penalty in this league is like this:

July 24, 201412 yr If the video hadn't been shown to the world via ESPN, dude prolly gets a fine. They dole suspension per public outcry, not on the actual incident and evidence. I agree with you wholeheartedly. On that note, I can't wait to see what Gordon gets.
July 24, 201412 yr Joke! The NFL needs take a harder look at all their punishments. The minor drug offenses are penalized way too severely if Rice only gets two games for this.

IMO, the system of doling penalty in this league is like this: Mike Florio of PFT said on the Dan Patrick show actually compared big Ben to the rice situation. It all comes down to number of offenses . Rice was squeaky clean prior to this and Goodell normally gives one pass but lays the hammer on the second. He said the league did a full investigation on Big Ben and while prosecutors didn't think they could convict that is irrelevant to the NFL through there investigation on not one occasion but two Big Ben did something he shouldn't of done with a woman. In the Rice situation he watched both tapes the one the public has seen and one they haven't. Based on evidence and first time offense its consistent with past punishments. Personally if Rice did punch a woman I think he needs to be in jail for am extended period of time.

July 24, 201412 yr It is all collectively bargained. I am clear on that and that is in part why the NFL is out of touch with reality. The NFL is managing in a bubble using 1970s techniques.

I'm not defending him at all, but evidence is evidence. It's a joke, no matter how you slice it.

Listen I think any man who lays hand on a woman is scum to me. I also know in the world of business and even more so with union agreements there are realities that you have to deal with. If Rice gets in to trouble again the Hammer will drop. Roger Goodell is anything but soft when it comes to player punishment.
