July 23, 201412 yr The above posts lead me to believe it's a shock they aren't scoring runs. That wasn't directed at you. This team when healthy struggled to score so... I agree with you. I'd start by trading Chapman. He would be #1 on my trading block. I said that at the start of the year. Well they are hitting for an NL low .186 since the break. Hence the CY Young and Sandy Koufax remarks.
July 23, 201412 yr Author They could probably move Chapman for a top-tier prospect. First team I'd call if I'm the Reds and were looking to deal either of them is the Dodgers. 4 Top 50 MLB prospects, 2 of which (Seager and Pederson) are position players. If you could turn either of them into 1 or 2 of those guys, it would be a huge haul. Dodgers may say thanks, but no thanks, but I'd at least make the call. I'd love to have either of those 2 guys.

July 23, 201412 yr Because they are playing with replacement players that suck. The regulars have sucked worse than the subs. Since the break: Schumaker .364 Pena .333 Santiago .250 Everyone else at .200 or worse. Some way worse

Point is the team as it stands now obviously couldn't sustain the level of play prior to the break and we all knew that. Injuries and regression coming together. This isn't a shock.
July 23, 201412 yr 5 game sample size. I assumed it was the time period we were discussing. What sample size is good for you. last 30? Probably not. Only 3 regulars in the top 10. I know the injuries have really hurt, but the regulars that are playing aren't killing it

July 23, 201412 yr Author Hamilton 8, Frazier 5, Pena 3, Ludwick 7, Bruce 9, Mesoraco 2, Schumaker 4, Santiago 6, Leake RHP A cry for help from Price?
July 23, 201412 yr When Bryan Pena is your 3 hitter and Ryan Ludwick is your 4 hitter, you are not very good. PERIOD! Pena is hotter than anybody on our team, but what does that say about our team. When 2 part time players are hitting 3rd and 4th that means your regulars are not very good. SELLERS!

July 23, 201412 yr Much like life, you buy in your prime not knowing completely what will happen in the future. Not really getting that. Luckily I haven't invested in anything that resembles the investment in Luddy.
July 23, 201412 yr Hamilton 8, Frazier 5, Pena 3, Ludwick 7, Bruce 9, Mesoraco 2, Schumaker 4, Santiago 6, Leake RHP A cry for help from Price? A desperate one at that. Only healthy bat on 40-man is Tucker Barnhart. No need for a 3rd catcher. Walt needs to pull something off, and fast. If not, the Reds will become sellers instead of buyers.
July 23, 201412 yr Can we agree that what the Reds need most are an upgrade in LF, SS and a LF pitcher in the bullpen? if so, you can't improve each of these spots enough to be sellers. Best bet is to play it out with what you have and try to fix those weaknesses by next season.
