July 14, 201412 yr I understand Love is a Known commodity, but haven't we heard for 3 years that Wiggins was the best prospect in Basketball since James. Many even were saying coming out of HS he was a better lock than James, Kobe or even MJ...so do you pass up on a chance at a once in a generation talent and possible next Big Thing in Basketball for a current top 10 player? I don't know, but it seems that everybody that was sold on Wiggins a year ago as the next "It Guy" in the NBA are already giving up on him. Did this past season at Kansas hurt him in everyone's eyes that much?

I do not think it is about giving up on a guy, but it is obvious he will take time to develop in to a potential top 10 player. It is a win now league and Love is a top 10 player, today. And people keep acting as if he is a grizzled veteran with limited years remaining, but Love is only 25 years old.

I agree, but what if the Lakers a had traded a rookie Kobe for Grant Hill because they wanted to win this year not in a year or two, how much would they have regretted that? Grant Hill was in his prime and an All NBA 1st team player, but at his best he was never Kobe. I'm just saying how often does true Greatness really come along? If Wiggins is 90% the player he is expected to be he could also carry the Cavs to a title after LBJ is past his prime, I don't see Love doing that. But I do completely see that Love would be a great fit for the Cavs right now at this moment.

KI and Love certainly could carry the Cavs to a title. I'd buy that before I would buy KI and Wiggins doing it. If Wiggins ends up a better player than Love then I'll be shocked.

And I think enough evidence is out there to consider it an even higher risk gamble that Wiggins gets to the great point.

Love is a young, known commodity that can be a mainstay for the remainder of LeBron's career.

I think it's very debatable as to whether or not he could have been as good as Kobe if he weren't injured and the medical staff hadn't tried to put a bandaid on a problem that needed surgery and pushed him out of the training room to play a playoff game.
July 15, 201412 yr If there were ever a team that needed to be in "win now" mode, it's Cleveland. In a city with 3 pro sports teams where there hasn't been a title in over 50 years and the best player in the sport in one of the last years of his prime (he'll have plenty of good years, but LeBron might have 1, maybe 2 or even 3 more years where he's at his peak. Sure, he'll only be less dominant only when compared to a younger LeBron, but there's too much history of guys starting to decline once they pass 28 or 29. You can't be too worried about trading away a future that's probably going to be worthless anyway if you don't get it done now. It also doesn't help Cleveland that Wiggins and LeBron are both wings, and that Love is a guy who brings something different to the table and does so at a position of need for them (I don't see the Cavs drafting Bennett with the #1 overall was a very ringing endorsement of Tristan Thompson, especially considering it left Oladipo and Porter on the board). Irving, Waiters, LeBron, Love, and Varajeo with Thompkins as a 6th man Ivring, LeBron, Wiggins, Thompkins, and Varajeo with Waiters as a 6th man I know which lineup I like better, even though I'm not a big fan of Waiters. Regardless of what anyone else thinks, this one comes down to what LeBron and his people want. He has a two year dear that has an opt out clause after one and if he can force Pat Riley to draft Shabazz Napier, he can probably make Dan Gilbert come walk his dog every morning if he feels like it.

Before his rookie year, they still could have traded him for an more established NBA ready player...in hind sight that would have looked like a bone headed move.
July 15, 201412 yr Before his rookie year, they still could have traded him for an more established NBA ready player...in hind sight that would have looked like a bone headed move. Maybe, but unlike you and others I expect very very little from Andrew Wiggins. Athletic small forward???? Yeah, never seen one of those in the NBA. I am very skeptical of Wiggins and have no reason to believe he'll be better than Love. We KNEW Kobe was going to be a superstar. The jury is out on Wiggins. We'll see what he can do in time. If he proves me wrong the Cavs made the right move.
July 15, 201412 yr The more I think about the more upset I get at the Cavs for not doing this trade yet. Wiggins would be a TimberWolf by now if I was in charge. It makes too much basketball sense to make this trade immediately.

We are talking about a team that drafts all point guards and Dan Gilbert.
