Reds @ Giants (6/26 - 6/29)

Why is it absurd? Your about to lose 2 of your 3 key starting pitchers and possible your closer because you cant sign them and out of money. Get rid of the money problem.

(I guess it could be absurd as im not sure what team in baseball would want Voto.)

The fact that they're two games back in the WC is why it's absurd for someone to throw out a totally random arbitrary number, such as "if they aren't at least 6 games over .500 by the deadline" as a reference to whether they're buyers or sellers.

Also, the offense has been improved tenfold since Votto came back. Everyone is hitting better now that he's back. Regardless of what you think of him (and your hatred of him is comical), he's a guy who gets on at over a 40% clip. That's about as valuable a commodity as there is in this game.

The players they need to trade are Phillips and Chapman. That's what a smart team would do. They do that and they'll be able to sign at least one of Latos or Cueto. No team, outside of LA or NY, could afford to have 3 starting pitchers making what Latos, Cueto, and Bailey are going to be commanding. If it were up to me, they'd find a way to move Bailey and keep the other two and Leake. Going to be hard to find a taker on Homer though IMO.

No one will take Homer after the way he's pitched this year. The Reds may have inadvertently priced themselves out of the Cueto and Latos market with that signing.

I will agree on Phillips, but im not sure another team wants him or who his replacement would be if they did trade him. (Can Votto play second?)

Pitching wise this team wont survive if they dont resign Cueto (and yes I used to bash him hard for being injury prone and mentally deficient, but he has proved alot to me this season) and Latos both. Furthermore with the fact that Cingrani is one more chance away from being a bust IMO, they may not be able to afford to lose Leake either.

Agreed, Reds resigned the wrong guy and it is more than likely gonna hurt their pitching for the next 5 years.

Do you actually watch the Reds?

How closely do you follow the Reds?

The one area in the system this team is strong at is their pitching....Guys like Stephenson, Lorenzen, and a couple others will all be ready to go in the next season or two. The starting pitching will be fine, if they move Phillips and Chapman. That'll free up the money necessary to lock up either Cueto or Latos.

As far as who to play 2nd, well for this season and next Skip is an adequate replacement. After that, they'll have to find someone, but it's the way it is with a mid-market team.

I'd say no, based on some of his posts. :lol2:

Does sound like he listens to Lance a lot though.

If Dan Uggla can play 2nd, anyone can play 2nd. Maybe not make as many spectacular plays or difficult plays but cover 1st on bunt coverages, make routine outs and have quick DP pivots.

Sure, you could put Rockmom at 2nd if you wanted to, but neither her, nor Votto can play an adequate enough 2nd base.

That's because Votto couldn't make the routine plays and RM couldn't pivot on the DP. But do all of those things and they could.

Actually, you make a good point. If Uggla can play 2nd, I'd imagine guys like Frazier or Meso could do it. :lol2: Of course, I'd be shocked if the Reds ever even considered something like that though.

No doubt in my mind Frazier could. Meso may end up being better at 3B if Frazier were to move. 1B and 3B seem like a more appropriate transition for a catcher than the middle.

Like you, no way it happens.

Heck, while we're at it:

Move Frazier to LF

Move Votto to 3B

Move Cozart to 2B

Move Hamilton to SS

Move Bruce to CF

Move Meso to 1B

Move Leake to RF

Start Pena at C

Sound about right? :jump:

All 5 of the starting 5 at Pensacola have the chance to be good to really good MLBers.
