How's this for a football weekend?

Featured Replies

October 24th, USF at UC (in PBS)

October 25th, Mississippi State at UK

October 26th, Ravens at Bengals

Here is my tentative football schedule for 2014. The games with stars are the tentative ones. The rest are a lock (already paid for), unless something unforeseen happens.

August 16, Dophins at Bucs (Preseason)

August 28, Redskins at Bucs (Preseason)

August 30, Western Carolina at USF

September 6, Maryland at USF

September 7, Panthers at Bucs

September 13, NC State at USF

September 14, Rams at Bucs

September 19, UConn at USF

September 27, USF at Wisconsin

October 3, Ryle at Boone County *

October 4, South Carolina at UK *

October 11, Eastern Carolina at USF

October 12, Ravens at Bucs

October 18, Notre Dame at FSU**

October 24, USF at UC

October 25, Mississippi State at UK *

October 26, Ravens at Bengals*

November 1, Houston at USF

November 9, Falcons at Bucs

November 28, UCF at USF

November 30, Bengals at Bucs

December 21, Packers at Bucs

December 28, Saints at Bucs

* Lock but waiting until tickets become available.

** Waiting to see if tickets will be available and at what price. I'll only pay so much to see anything. More than $100 per squeeze ain't worth the juice.

There will be at least one Sickles, Alonzo, or Gaither high school game in that mess somewhere.

If the Bucs make the playoffs or the Bulls make a bowl game, it gets better.

Oh yeah, I also have season tickets to USF Soccer. This is like baseball season, only better.

Impressive! Lot's of fun ahead for you.

Swamprat I'm going to show my wife your schedule to show her mine isn't all that bad.

I should rephrase it to say our schedule. Mrs. S will be with me for all but one of those games. She loves football.
Jeez swampy, you made of money? :D

I was thinking kind of the same thing. I would have to take a second mortgage to just pay for the tickets, not including the travel. That looks like a lot of fun, wish I could do it. I would love to retire and take the RV every weekend someplace new for football one year and follow up with Nascar the next year.

I've done most of the regular vacation and recreation stuff. I've lived on the beach, literally. I live in a place where other come to vacation, meaning I've been to all of the tourist attractions enough to make a buddy sick.

I lived in Germany as a kid, so Europe holds no appeal for me. Mrs. S went to Europe on her senior trip and has no desire to go back.

Actually, what I do, now, costs less than most hobbies my friends have, believe it or not.

The UK, Wisconsin, and Bengal tickets for both both of us will run $440 combined, UC tickets are $35 each. So I'll have $510 wrapped up in tickets.

The hotel in Madison is running me $125 a night. We're staying with family in Cincinnati on both the Wisconsin/UK trip and the UC/UK/Bengal trip, but will stop in Kennesaw, Georgia up and back on the UC trip and on the way back on the Wisconsin trip. That usually costs me $88 a night. We're stopping in Tullahoma, Tennessee on the way to Wisconsin, but staying with family there, too. So hotel arrangements come to around $520.

Gas will run about $700. Mrs. S and I enjoy road trips, so the driving is not a problem.

The USF Bulls Club is sponsoring the tailgates in Wisconsin and Cincinnati, and we'll be eating in most of the time in Cincinnati, but I still figure meals around $600.

That's about $2300 or $2400 for the football vacations.

Now, on top of that, I have 16 home football games. Season tickets for both the Bucs and the Bulls run about $1100 for both of us.

Almost every weekend from August 30 to December 28, I'm going to at least one football game. My investment is around $3600.

Look at what it would cost to take 3 weeks vacation to resorts or go on a cruise. Been there. Done that.

Look at time sharing a reasonably nice place on a beach, not some renovated La Quinta Inn, taking travel and food into account. Did that, too, for years.

The costs are roughly the same as my football vacations plus the home games.

The bottom line, though, is my parents did their traveling early, actually before they had kids, so when they became elderly, they had no regrets. I would like to do that before I get too old to enjoy it.

You and Mrs. Swampy are my kind of people!

From what I hear from my son you will LOVE Madison.

I just spent 2k in PCB over the past week (including condo) I like your deal better.

Add to all this, you get to hang out with me and Mrs RTS one of the nights (two if we're lucky). Worth the trip, time and money in and of itself. :D

I got all excited when the UK/Florida game was scheduled for 7 PM. If they scheduled NC State/USF, the same day, at noon, we could make both. The USF game is at 3:30. Close, but no cigar. One of these days, though.

He is going there? If so, he should come over an laugh at us. :D I don't know how many are going to the game from here, but we should stand out like a green thumb in that sea of red. However, depending on how UW handles access seating, Mrs. S and I could end up with the home crowd somewhere.

We're really looking forward to it. The last time I was there was for the opening game of the 1981 season. It will be Mrs. S's first time, though.
