8 Reasons Children of the 70's Should All Be Dead

Featured Replies

Ironic the "safety crowd" is the exact same group that lived through this list as kids??? :idunno:

Yes it is, although I think the more vocal safety crowd is just a wee bit younger as most of this group's children are already adults. My youngest played sports with kids who had parents about 15 to 20 years younger than my wife and I. We always laughed at how protective they were. Of course we were on our third and most of them had their oldest on the teams.

Do as I say, not as I did. A message repeated over and over in our household.

I'm thinking of that for my epitaph.

If they happened to land in your skull' date=' well, then you should have moved. [/quote'] ^ THIS! It aggravates me how we protect stupid people far too often!

At least in the 70's we didn't have to ride on the roof and hood of our Mom's Malibu to save the interior

Guilty of all eight

^ We did have one kid get his eye shot out with a BB gun and he lost that eye. I rode on my uncle's lap in order to drive his 1972 corvette and when he went to have a sip of his beer I turned into Grandma's driveway a little too early and went up a dirt bank. Luckily I don't think there was any damage but I was only 6-7 at the time so not real sure. Jarts was a fun time.

I like the one where parents kicked the kids out the door in the morning and didn't let us back in until dark. We had a great time until I hit my head on the metal swing set while sled riding and was knocked out cold. My brother put me on the sled and pulled me back down the road and I woke up when I heard my mom yelling as she ran towards us as she thought I was dead. I can still hear my brother saying "because he was too heavy to carry" when he was asked why he had me on the sled :)

We were a little older and much more stupid when we shot "real" arrows straight into the air and tried to see who would run last.... wow, I'm not sure how I ever made it. I am glad to say I am the one in the family that doesn't get all riled up when kids want to go do something that may be a little dangerous in today's standards. Great memories!!

My uncle has a glass eye because of a bb gun

How about building ramps out of whatever you could find and jumping them with your bike.

Growing up, my mother didn't really care for football and would always say to us, "Don't crawl back to this house if you get hurt playing football!" However, we ALWAYS had to have clean underwear in case we were taken to the emergency room.

We drank water straight from the garden hose, and since we lived in the country, it came straight from the cistern (which was filled by collecting rain water off the roof of the house). The only filtration system was the sand at the bottom of the two chambers.

And, as I've posted in a previous thread, we drank milk straight from the farm...totally unpasteurized!

We were okay with that until we started building landing ramps

…and in the spring it tasted like green onions. Worst breakfast in the world before school

70's was a little late for me; graduated high school in 1973.

However, I did discover that 11 people could fit in my mother's '66 Mustang ragtop after the pre-Homecoming bonfire.

I managed 9 in my VW Rabbit driving to lunch one day. We didn't have a cafeteria so we had a 50 minute open lunch period.
