Miami looked like Cleveland before LeBron left last night. And I loved it. Mario Chalmers sucks, Wade is old and when he doesn't get calls is 100% useless. The Heat get little to nothing from anybody other than the Big 3, and last night they only got something from 1/3 of that. I think I said it in the Heat/Pacers series, but Miami is very beatable when only LeBron has a big game. When others have big games in addition to LeBron, that's when trouble happens. The Heat have been nothing short of pathetic on defense in this series. They can't guard the Spurs with the smaller line up in, and they have been run out of the gym 2 out of 3 games, and the other one wasn't really in doubt either.

I have come to the conclusion that LeBron is so great in his abilities - and naturally you want the offense revolving around him - it forces the other complimentary parts to just stand around and watch. It is the exact same style as in Cleveland, but with better players. Where the Heat have been most off this season, and I talked about it before the playoffs got rolling, is their defense. The past 3 years they have been the best defensive team in the league. This past season the Heat have been in the lower half of the league in defense.

The Heat have won their titles with defense. They have to find a way to slow down the Spurs offense or this one is over in game 5.

I agree with you that defense is what won the Heat two titles. I was not aware that their defensive stats had slipped like that this year. Good info.

But of an exaggeration there. He was bad last night but he's no where near useless.

The Heat are best on offense when LeBron's game goes from inside-out. He had his hot streak in the 3rd quarter of game 2 from the outside and he starts believing he is a wing playing jump shooter, and he is not. Regardless of what he scores, the offense is more fluid with him working on the inside.

 

The entire Heat were lifeless in the first half and the game was over at that point. LeBron got a lot of his in the third, but they were just trading baskets and the points were irrelevant by then.

NBA defense is notoriously bad but Wade and Allen can't guard anybody. SA's bigs are way more active than anybody Miami can put on the floor. The big 3 in SA are outplaying the big 3 in Miami. Oh, and Leonard and Diaw are killing it.

Miami, Wade in particular, looked awful outside of LeBron.

 

San Antonio showed why they are the most complete team in the league when they are at the top of their game. They put on an offensive clinic in terms of sharing the ball and hitting the open man. You have to respect how their guys are selfless and seem to genuinely enjoy playing together.

 

Got to give it to the Spurs. They always move the ball well, but their defense was phenomenal last night.

I don't think these guys are just gassed. Teams just don't go to four straight finals anymore. However, the Spurs have completely outclassed the Heat. They've outhustled them, out worked them. Outside of being better in this series (which at this point no one could debate), the Spurs also want it more. They realize it may be their last best chance to win.

 

The Heat should realize that this could be it for them too. Without some major changes, the deterioration of DWade is going to doom this team. LeBron should work his way to LAC.
