This was not embarrassing. This team should have never made it out of the super regionals at UCLA. Nunley simply ran out of steam. This team placed SEVENTH in the SEC, I would say they over achieved in the post season. There was no choking by UK in my opinion. You consider an error choking? How about the SIX hits Baylor put up in the 6th? Let's see, how about the error from Baylor in right field? Is that choking?

 

The only question I had is why not put Cumbness (1st baseman) in to give Baylor a different look? That is what I put on Lawson.

 

Congratulations to UK softball, they had 1 heck of a run and congratulations to Glenn Moore, Mark Lumley and Britni Sneed Newman for advancing. You couldn't ask for 3 more deserving people.

It's easy for us couch potatoes to call these girls chokers, but that's a bunch of stuff. Yes they could have won and for any and all mistakes that were made they were 1 Strike from winning by two runs and advancing...1 Strike...btw the other team has scholarship players too.

 

But being 1 Strike from advancing with a two run win, doesn't seem like a CHOKE to me!

Biggest choke job in world series history. UK should be ashamed with that implosion. Totally ridiculous. Horrible play by the 2nd baseman, horrible pitching and horrible coaching by letting Nunley stay in.

 

Sad they will be remembered for the biggest choke job in history when they finally make it to the college world series for first time in school history. Embarrasing.

 

Also, because you seem to know so much about softball, how can you say Nunley pitched horrible? She threw almost 550 pitches in the super regionals and threw 150 tonight on top of her ULL and Alabama pitch count. She was their only pitcher in the post season and that girl who you say is horrible beat some pretty good teams v

I don't think anyone with half a brain thinks Nunley pitched horrible. She was phenom all the way. This loss lies squarely with a coach who would not accept the need to be ready with a back up pitcher to spell her when she NEEDED it. Stevie Wonder could see she was struggling hard in the 6th. You don't control a game and then watch the other team bat around and luckily leave the bases juiced without seeing she was out of gas. The unique nature of softball allows a coach to bring in a new pitcher and then re-enter the old one if you need to (with some measure of rest). Lawson is a superb coach. She let her heart and emotions outweigh her mind in this one IMO. The Seniors deserved better in this game from her. The team DID NOT choke. They lost. Simple as that. :(

Absolutely agree! I knew UK was in trouble when they asked Lawson if it looked like Nunley was struggling would she put someone else into pitch and she pretty much said it was her game and they were sticking with Nunley. I thought oh my, the girl has thrown lights out for you all post season but let her lose it because of some pride thing.

 

I am a Baylor fan first (I played against Britni during club ball in Houston) but I would have been happy with UK winning as well. For those seniors, I hate they had to lose that way but wow for Baylor for never giving up.

The second baseman missing an easy ball with a three run lead really helped to fuel the rally instead of sniffing out the rally. You could see on Nunley face that she was done, Lawson should have made the change. Many times a pitching change for a different look is a rally killer.

It was really cool to see UK succeed in a sport this year that has never done it before. Way too proud of what they've done to let this game impair my view of what they accomplished.
