Couldn't agree more with what you've said. I also think that teams put too much into the All A tournament. In the end it doesn't mean squat especially if you don't win your district or regional tournament. I know some think the All A is the best thing since sliced bread, but in reality it doesn't mean squat if you lose in your own regional tournament.

 

If that is their ultimate goal, to win a tournament made up of small schools then that is their choice, but for me, I always thought of the state tournament as more meaningful.

 

I disagree that the All A "doesn't mean squat". At the end of a season looking back, there is absolutely no doubt for me that I would choose the All A title over a regional championship. No doubt. Obviously the overall state championship is the goal. If I am ranking what I consider a hierarchy of goals as a small school baseball team they would look like this:

 

1. State Championship

2. State Runner Up

3. All A Championship

4. Regional Title

5. District Title

Interesting debate. I would think that the "locality" of the region and knowing the boys on the other teams would lead players to say they'd rather win the 9th. I also think BW's stature in NKY and the 9th would make them think that while the A is great and a great accomplishment they think they're a 9th power and would rather win it than the A.

I completely agree. While the All A is a nice trophy in the school trophy case, it should/would be place lower than at least a Regional Championship.

 

Another issue that I have with the All A is that I do not think that teams with out of district or private schools should be eligible (I believe Beechwood only had 1 or 2). That would really bolster the claim that it was a tourney for the little guys. In basketball even more than baseball, if you have a couple of studs who open enroll or have a Catholic school who pulls students from all over, how is that fair to say a school like a Ludlow or Dayton?

Maybe for a "small" school this is the case. But that's not the goal for everyone. To be taken as a contender in the state a regional title is considered the bench mark. My hierarchy would be close to yours but I would flip 3 & 4.

I think it is around 120 schools.

Exactly my point. Private and Parochials should be in a separate division, if there are enrollment based classes. In sports like baseball and basketball, that isn't a concern.

I did want to give an "atta boy" to Brayden Combs(did I spell his first name correctly?).

 

Despite it being a LONG day for the Tigers he was really the only kid I saw who came off of the bench to give dap to his teammates. Leader.

I could not agree more. He is the consummate team player. In the pre-game stretch in the outfield he was out there visiting all the players giving words of encouragement. I see him as the leader and go-to guy on this team for the next two years. I am hoping all others will follow his lead.

If you only allowed teams that truly think they can win state compete in the state tournament, you would have a 50 team tournament, if that.
