Elliott County 52 West Carter 48

Congrats to Elliott County for winning the 62nd district tournament.

Elliott seems to be playing some pretty good ball at just the right time. Who's to say that this isn't the team to beat in Morehead?

Frances

If they can shot consistantly for three nights you may very well be right Frances.

Elliott should be a favorite to go to Rupp.

Elliott County wins the championship but they didn't play very well I didn't think. Johnathan Ferguson however is big time. He may be one of the regions best 3 or 4 players RIGHT NOW. He scored every time he wanted to.

Elliott shoots the "3" very well in transition. While they may be ? shot(s) (Selection) many times they go in...they don't have a conscience which I guess a good thing for their youth.

Free throws may be their demise in the regional tournament. They gave West Carter every opportunity.

I think the best overall team left in this tournament is either Ashland, Fairview, Elliott, and now Greenup.

From what I'm gathering about the 1st region...teams there aren't world beaters but Morgan Co. was one of the only teams that would have matched up well with Marshall Co., Graves Co. Heath who was #1 all year in the 1st region was shocked by Lone Oak in the regional tournament. This year's 16th winner is really going to have to shoot the ball well in Rupp Arena, as they may get eaten on the glass. Best of luck for whoever wins.

Elliott County may be just the team to match up with the 1st region. Why, because when you shoot the three well you can match up with anyone and I do mean anyone! Congratulations and well............go Lions!

True...but recently they have shot around low 30% range. Granted they can get there, and granted they can hit even between 5-8 three's it'll take a lot more than that to overcome...of course it all depends on the matchups, etc. Long time till any of that scenario plays out.

A good draw and we can see Elliot in the Finals of the Region.. when was the last time they made it there anyone know?

Probablely never and I can remember way back to the days when Elliott Co was called Sandy Hook High and Hitchens and Olive Hill having high schools. But in the 80s and 90s before the internet made it easy to follow the score, I'm not to sure how well Elliott Co. did in the playoffs. I've been gone a long time.

Elliott didn't really play that great tonight. They played good enough to win but Weddington didn't really seem to get into the game. When he plays good and has good all-around games, they do much better. I think Ferguson should take 15-20 shots a game. I would say he is probably the top freshman in the region and possibly even a top-5 player in all classes. I don't know if anyone else noticed it or not, but it seemed like Ferguson and Weddington were having some chemistry issues in this game. I noticed that Ferguson was a little frustrated on several occasions when he was posted up or when he cut to get open and didn't receive a pass. My advice to the team would be - it doesn't matter if one guy scores 40 points of if one guy scores 0 points - what matters is if your team wins and advances to Rupp Arena. If Elliott would have shot decent from the free throw line, they probably would have won by 10 or more.

Yea, and if West hadn't gotten almost tripled up from the free throw line, they would have won. EC shot 24, WC 10. West had 4 more field goals, and EC doesn't exactly have what I'd call a post presence!! But Ferguson is the real deal, that's for sure.

I didn't notice that Elliott shot 14 more free throws and I didn't really feel that the refs were calling it for either side. I guess Elliott's style of driving and slashing will create a few more fouls and also they were intentionally fouled several times in the last 2 minutes of the game. I will agree that they have no post presence at all and Ferguson is the real deal. My advice would be get him more shots when he is playing like he did in the district tourney.

ECHS needs to get the ball to the player that is hot. They take to Many nonsense shots and miss to many free throws. Be patient and be selective and the shots will fall and Elliott will win. :walk: :walk: :walk:

I like Ferguson a lot. He's a great kid with a sister that can shoot the lights out too. :thumb:
