Is even a close win bad for Mitch?

If Mitch wins today but it is close does this bode well for Grimes in the fall?

Not sure that either a big win or a close one will really indicate anything for the fall.

I agree. The Bevin supporters may not be happy with the senior senator, but they're politically active and engaged and I don't imagine many of them will stay home at the risk of a Democrat taking his seat. Those who voted for Bevin are going to show up again in November and vote for McConnell.

I hope you are correct but in the last two presidential elections, those same voters nation wide to some degree stayed home because they could not stomach the GOP nominees thereby giving Obama a decisive victory in 2008 and a comfortable victory in 2012. Even if they had shown up, Obama still would have probably won but you get where I am going.

Maybe learned a lesson and not just going to take ball and go home….

If Mitch doesn't win by a significant margin of at least 2-1 or better, it will severely weaken him in the fall, I think.

I agree that if he doesn't win very easily it will really give the opposition a huge boost come this fall. This race is the #1 race on the Dem's Radar this fall according to a Democrat pollster I saw on TV a few weeks ago. They think this is the best chance to flip a Senate seat in the country as well as take out the minority leader as a bonus.

I just think that, without a resounding win to assert his dominance over Ky politics, the DNC would pour five times as much cash into ALG's campaign coffers than otherwise. Could be the ugliest race in history. They might really go nasty and unearth some secrets Mitch doesn't want the electorate to know about.

I agree 100%

I even heard murmurings that Bevin may have (without his knowledge) received some liberal leaning money to fund his run as to weaken Mitch.

An independent such as myself doesn't care much about the primary, and thus I didn't vote. I will vote in the actual election, and it won't be for Grimes.

Just so you have another data point.

I would be willing to bet on it just as I would be the POTUS who will be here nameless received support from outside of the US without his knowledge.

Depends on how close. A relatively close race will have the ALG team shouting "his own party barely supports him" over and over.

Since she can't campaign in KY on the national agenda of her party that would be about all she has

I would not read too much into any numbers today. I just returned from precinct and was the lone voter. Certainly no 'just-out-of-work-rush' since it was around 5 p.m. The sign in book looked pretty empty.

McConnell almost doubled up Bevin.

He's already started connecting Grimes to the Obama agenda and her lifetime of politics (Any child of Jerry Lundergran had to learn to talk by spouting Democratic talking points). This could be interesting.

How can ALG convince anyone that she as a freshman Senator can buck that establishment and effectively oppose the Obama agenda and it's detrimental effects on Kentucky?
