Congrats to all the girls! However, from an outsider looking in, should the number of players that get HM be limited? Are there any players left who didn't get some recognition?? It honestly reminds me of the first round of the KHSAA Football Playoffs where almost every school gets to go to the playoffs. Gee I remember the days when only the "Top" Players in the district, region or state actually received an award. It just doesn't happen in softball either....

Some on this board would argue that everyone should get to a playoff game…probably that everyone should be HM. I don't agree in giving participation "trophies"

Maybe next year you can take it on and do it how you feel it should go?

When you consider that we are voting by Division and with 9 teams in DI, 9 in DII & 8 in DIII, and by rule each coach is able to nominate up to 5 players........thus the big number of HM.

 

Top vote-getter = POY

2nd highest thru 10th = 1st Team

11th highest thru 19th = 2nd Team

all other nominees = Honorable Mention

Why not make HM the next 9 - #20-#28 - and leave it at that. When everyone gets a trophy, no one does.

This really isn't an everyone gets a trophy thing...up to 5 players can get nominated, not the whole team. Not all teams nominated their limit. Cudos to the coaches that felt they only had those lesser numbers to nominate. I think most coaches take this seriously. The only addition that would be a nice, would be positions. I understand this would be difficult as what do you do with cases like Knotts and Smith but the coaches could determine this on their nominations. Similar to MLB. The only issue then becomes when you have two multi position players nominated for the same position. The reason I bring this up is there were very few outfielders even nominated and even fewer on the 1st or 2nd team. just a thought...

Who were the conference winners team wise?

I didnt take the time to read the whole thread , I'll assume it post season awards and the head shaking that goes on after it . Here my addition of a few tears to the cry bucket --

2 years in a row our team has went undefeated in our conference . 2 years in a row the POY has went to some one other than a player from our team . This year the POY award went to the pitcher of the SECOND place team that we beat 7-1 and 11-1 . In neither game was she outstanding at the plate or in the field ( 2 throwing errors in the 1st game from the circle ) and she's a sophomore . The kid we nominated hit right above 500 , batted leadoff , led our team in runs scored , BA , and has 3 total errors in 20 plus games at SS .

Furthermore that player we pounded twice is now a two time 1st team all state selection while for the second year in a row we didnt have a player receive any all state consideration .

To get even more ridiculous our league ( which is gawd awful --we gave up 6 total runs in 14 games this season and were just as dominate last year ) had three SS's receive all state awards while our SS that hit 500 with nearly no errors at SS got no mention .

This year the C from 3rd place team received 2nd team all state while ours got notta ! We run ruled them twice. frustrating .

DII - Highlands had to win it. Now they can get that elusive banner to hang at the Bird Cage. :lol2:

Softball fan 14, sorry if you don't like my opinion, but I'm an old school person where only the best of the best; cream of the crop, are recognized. Why don't the coaches just hand out participation or HM certificates to players when practice begins in February? I forgot, this is the generation of kids who get medals, ribbons and trophies regardless of their performance.
