The team in 1976 was never in a series where they needed to scrap and claw and get a win to scrap out a series at home against a team they should beat. Price needed to pull all hands on deck to try and win. Like it or not, this season is already slipping away and the sense of urgency needs to ramp up. This comparison means nothing! If Sparky was in a tough situation like Price, you can guarantee that all A players would have been in that line up. Sparky was not a sheep. He would have played that double header yesterday with much more sense of urgency. Nice research though. I appreciate your hard work. FYI, I think I was at that DH in 76. Good arguments Loogy but I would expect more from my team if I was you. It is OK to like Brian Price but also disagree with him. Its the middle of May, no series is that crucial.
May 16, 201412 yr They did lose both of those games and Sparky let Lum who was hitting .213 bat 4th. I kind of agree, but he said Perez, Morgan, etc. would never sit, when they in fact did. Again - please understand the message. They would never have sat if the scenario of losing a series when they needed it badly was on the line.

May 16, 201412 yr Its the middle of May, no series is that crucial. Sadly wrong - Home series against teams that you should beat if you desire to be a playoff team are always crucial. Last I checked games in May count against the standings just the same.

I don't get swayed with hypotheticals Cmon- you are just arguing for the sake of arguing. A players are always better than B players. That is a fact. The bottom line is this team has way too many holes to win but when the situation came up last night to try and dig in to get a win, Price chose to be an average manager and play 4 players that would be decent triple A players becasue that is what the "book" says to do. He chose to go by the book and like I said earlier, the facts show that most of those types of managers get fired a lot. I guess that I am just hoping that Price would be different and play to win, no matter what month it is.
