May 16, 201412 yr Agree 100% - Do you think Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, etc, given that they could lose a much needed series to the Padres at home, would have sat out and let Doug Flynn decide their fate? The middle of the lineup didn't sit did they? It was the 2nd, 6th, 7th, and 8 hitter that sat. The Stars will always play because they are better at 75% than the other guys. I'll take a 100% Bernidina over a 50-75% Ludwick/Schumaker everyday

Show me facts where a B line up is better than an A line up. You keep playing a 100% Bernadina and you will keep losing series and finish in about 5th place in the division. I will take a hobbling, sick and tired Shumaker over the .110hitting Berdadina any day of the week. Keep being a sheep and keep falling off the cliff.

The team in 1976 was never in a series where they needed to scrap and claw and get a win to scrap out a series at home against a team they should beat. Price needed to pull all hands on deck to try and win. Like it or not, this season is already slipping away and the sense of urgency needs to ramp up. This comparison means nothing! If Sparky was in a tough situation like Price, you can guarantee that all A players would have been in that line up. Sparky was not a sheep. He would have played that double header yesterday with much more sense of urgency. Nice research though. I appreciate your hard work. FYI, I think I was at that DH in 76. Good arguments Loogy but I would expect more from my team if I was you. It is OK to like Brian Price but also disagree with him.

Not sure it would have helped, but to put this disabled lineup out there was poop, no matter how many Big Red Machine comparisons you trot out here. Seriously, you just compared this team's DH strategy to arguably the best team in baseball history.

I kind of agree, but he said Perez, Morgan, etc. would never sit, when they in fact did.
