Michael Jordan considered himself a racist as a teen

Featured Replies

He was as unfaithful to his wife as Tiger Woods was and his gambling issues were a well kept secret. It isn't until 2014 when we hear about some things he said and did when he was a player that we currently castigate players for. He pretty much told Team USA he wouldn't play for them if Isaih Thomas was on the team. If Lebron or Kobe said they wouldn't play for Team USA because of Kevin Durant they would be MURDERED for that and deemed unpatriotic. People took MJ's side when he said and did that. He beat up Steve Kerr and others in practice. When Kobe does that he's a bad teammate. When MJ does it....well, his teammates should know their role and do what he says.

He didn't deserve any of that undue praise he got. He was a spoiled, petty basketball player just like the rest of them.

Word.

I hated him as a kid and that hate carried over to adulthood. I always resented the way he was exalted and praised when he played the game. He could do no wrong. He could have murdered his family and the press would have said it was another Michael Jordan that did it and they would have given him alibis. It was sickening and as long as I have been alive no athlete has ever been praised or revered the way Michael Jordan was.

I always hated that.

Yes. The UNC heritage MJ has should not go unnoticed. That adds to it as well.

Extremely rare that you will you hear me say that I like any UNC player but I did like Michael Jordan - the player. Michael Jordan - the person is a piece of :poop:

Michael Jordan is black?

Michael Jordan is one of the greatest players, if not the greatest, of all times. He was physically gifted and an over-the-top competitor. However, many of us and the media tend to canonize great athletes and expect them to be Saints, and few if any can live up to that. His behavior is not unlike how a lot of other testosterone induced athletes behaved and physical intimidation of teammates included. That doesn't make it right, but it makes it better if as one ages, they look back and realize the error of their ways and pass on this wisdom. I hope that is what he is doing.

That wasn't the angle I was going for though.

It seems that you hate MJ for the same reasons most people outside of North Carolina hate Duke and Coach K....

I thought that was your angle. Had to add my own spin to it. :D

I agree. From 88-98 he had no equal, there isn't a legitimate argument for anyone else during this span. It's hard to think of any other player in Basketball history who was clearly the best player for a decade. The only other comparable people I can think of in other sports are Babe Ruth and Wayne Gretzky.

Jordan won 5 MVP's during that time frame

Kareem won 6 from 70-80

LeBron has 4 of the last 6 and will surly match or surpass Jordan's number of MVP's in the same # of years.

Jordan was Great but what he did domination wise, isn't unprecedented.

Not exactly the same, as he admits this in his tell all book. However, after that what is different, Paula Deen was guilty of racist behavior in the past and admitted it?

Unless you tell me she continues racist behavior...the past is past to me.

It's totally different. Deen's comes from a place of romanticizing black servitude in the south. Jordan's comes from being on the wrong end of someone like Deen.
