Michael Jordan considered himself a racist as a teen

Featured Replies

Not at all the same thing as Paula Deen.

Not exactly the same, as he admits this in his tell all book. However, after that what is different, Paula Deen was guilty of racist behavior in the past and admitted it?

Unless you tell me she continues racist behavior...the past is past to me.

The difference, IMO, is that she got called out and accused about it and then admitted it. She didn't voluntarily own up to it...

But it is the past. Also, integrity aside, what did owning up to it get her? I am 100% sure the Bill Clinton's of the world would have denied, denied, denied, and he would still be running his fried chicken restaurant (pardon the metaphor).

It's just different in my opinion. Admitting you did something after you've already been "caught" tells me nothing about your character. Offering up some damning evidence from your past for apparently no reason says more, IMO.

I can agree with that. But, I hope, the similarity for both is that people can and do change.

No different than Tiger Woods. Leaps and bounds better than the next player. Hate the media, not the athlete.

No. The media turned on Tiger. The media still hasn't turned on MJ.

I hated him as a kid and that hate carried over to adulthood. I always resented the way he was exalted and praised when he played the game. He could do no wrong. He could have murdered his family and the press would have said it was another Michael Jordan that did it and they would have given him alibis. It was sickening and as long as I have been alive no athlete has ever been praised or revered the way Michael Jordan was.

I always hated that.

And I would of believed it was another Michael Jordan until the day I died :lol2:

The media only turned when Tiger had his personal life spill out into the public. If he was able to keep his life private as he had up to that point the Tiger love affair would of continued.

The only thing the media loves more than building up a superstar is knocking them down.

I would also say that a very short list of people were as deserving as he was. The greatest ever. Even though some people may think I am wrong, he was without a doubt, the greatest player that played during his era.

I agree. From 88-98 he had no equal, there isn't a legitimate argument for anyone else during this span. It's hard to think of any other player in Basketball history who was clearly the best player for a decade. The only other comparable people I can think of in other sports are Babe Ruth and Wayne Gretzky.

He was as unfaithful to his wife as Tiger Woods was and his gambling issues were a well kept secret. It isn't until 2014 when we hear about some things he said and did when he was a player that we currently castigate players for. He pretty much told Team USA he wouldn't play for them if Isaih Thomas was on the team. If Lebron or Kobe said they wouldn't play for Team USA because of Kevin Durant they would be MURDERED for that and deemed unpatriotic. People took MJ's side when he said and did that. He beat up Steve Kerr and others in practice. When Kobe does that he's a bad teammate. When MJ does it....well, his teammates should know their role and do what he says.

He didn't deserve any of that undue praise he got. He was a spoiled, petty basketball player just like the rest of them.

Keep getting them buckets and people forget. I think what also hurt Tiger was once this all came out he play dropped big time . If he would of won a couple majors I think the media would of moved on quicker. But because he kept losing the story stayed focus on the negative news as a reason for his poor play.

Now those are reasons to hate him. Before you just said because of media support.

I do agree there.

I'm just getting warmed up. He may pass DWade on my hater-meter by the time I get done. :lol2:
