Good description of the game!! Hats off to the Grove--Good game plan and effort--Cory Pelle was on fire!! Great season and a very good job this year by Coach B!!

Brossart survived the hard-knocking Silver Grove Big Trains 62-52 in the 37th District Semi-Finals and will advance to the District Finals on Friday Night vs Scott at 7pm in the Campbell County Middle School and return to the 10th Region Tournament next week after a two year hiatus.

 

Brossart trailed 16-14 after the first period, but pulled out to a 28-20 halftime lead by outscoring the Trains 14-4 in the second period. The Mustangs pushed out to a 15 point lead at 35-20, when the Trains battled back to make a game of it. Brossart led 44-38 after three, when the Trains cut it to two with the ball at 44-42, as close as they would come.

 

Brossart got some big buckets by Kyle Lubbers in the 4th Quarter who had 11 points in the period on some great Jimmy Uebel passes.

 

Brossart pushed it back out to 8 before the Trains cut it to 5 twice during the final period before yielding to the deeper, bigger Mustangs by the final score.

 

Silver Grove put on a clinic on playing hard, and got super-human efforts from the Pelle boys Corey with 26 and Justin with 17. The Mustangs were led by Troy Cooper with 14, Adam Franzen with 13 (4 - 3s), and Kyle Lubbers with 13.

 

The Big Trains and their first year head coach Tony Bacigalupo are to be commended on a great year and such a valiant effort tonight.

Good point--They'll have to play better Friday, or go to the fieldhouse as a district runner-up!!

Wow...great game Silver Grove. Good luck to the Mustangs. After seeing this score as close as it is maybe the stars are aligned for Deming and Augusta to give PC and MC some scares.

Coach Hart had some quotable moments from the stands, and was pretty vociferous in supporting his guys. I doubt he has a voice today.

#32 is indeed Senior Kyle Lubbers.

 

Lubbers is a self-made player who came out for the freshman team as a gangly, uncoordinated, post-player with few natural skills and abilities. He has come light-years during his career at Brossart, is an honors student in the classroom and has an opportunity to play college ball at Berea.

 

He is a major contributor to this year's Mustangs team and we are extremely proud of him.

Good to see Steve was out supporting his former players. He is a great coach and an even better guy. I am sure he was not holding back on his comments.
