Estill County 67 Powell County 45

Good win for Estill, they are for real with this game. Coldiron always has his team fired up and ready to try to win no matter what it takes. Estill seems to be bringing it together every since injuries weren't a factor. Good luck Estill in the Finals, with some good players on both teams lets just sees who stands upto the challenge and becomes as a "Big Game Player" because without a question no other winner or looser of any other distric on this region wants to draw either of these teams.

I don't understand the surprise here. Powell finishes 8-17, 1-9 in the region with a lone win against Owsley. Estill one of three best teams left in region, and very possibly the best. Estill should have won big, and they took care of business.

Powell hasn't been able to handle pressure all year and Estill apllied plenty of it last night. I do think Powell may have led once or twice around the 12-11 or 11-10 range but it was all Engineers from there. The Berryman kid seemed out of sync last night. Any Estill fans know if he is hurt or anything? Just didn't seem like the young man I had watched 4 or 5 times earlier. Great win and they have all the tools.

I'm not so sure the win was as much a surprise as how well Estill played from start to finish. Most expected Powell to be a test for the Engineers and they probably were for a quarter and a half or so - but they were just ran off the court in the 2nd half.

I dont believe he's hurt - I think he just may have had one of his weaker games shooting wise. I thought he made some good hustles though.

It was a good time for him to get his shooting woes out of the way - we'll need him lighting it up Friday night.

I really like watching him play and he will be a big factor in estill marching on IMO.

Sometimes a players contribution doesn't show up in the box score.

Good defensive teams key on the best players. Good players defer to their teammates when double teamed. It is a team game and you can have a good game and score only 3 points.

I'm glad the games are played on the court and not on BGP :madman:

One game at a time Estill ;)

I really thought Powell would give Estill more of a game than this. The future does not look so bright for the Pirates.

I think Powell was outmanned this year, but I don't think the have a senior. Anybody know for sure? If that is right, they will be much improved next year. Another year makes a big difference with teenage kids, size and strengthwise. I look for Owsley and Breathhitt to improve for the same reason

I believe the Powell radio station said that Powell didn't have any seniors. Owsley only had one, Robert Smith.

Professor, we used to redshirt kids at Lee and you all too at Owsley to get that extra year of growth. Don't do it anymore, and it was part of the reason Lee County faded in 90's.

I was at the game... sat on the Estill side and enjoyed the game. It was fun to watch though there were a couple of out of control fans on the other side that got to be a distraction for me. Was glad that the injury scare turned out to not be serious and had the priveledge of bumping into Mr. Dixon after the game. Class A act IMO and a talented player. I wish him the best of luck though I'll be rooting for my Bobcats. I heard and spoke to several Powell fans after the game. Didn't really have the heart to tell those loyal to their Pirates I thought their complaints about the officiating was off base. If anyone should complain Estill shouldda but they won so it was all good. Great atmosphere and can't wait till Friday when I'm sure the atmosphere will be just as good, if not better. :)

I'm with you there!

During the '80's and early '90's Owsley's redshirting was what enambled them to compete against the larger schools in the region. And it worked...Owsley, a school of 250 enrollment, played in the regional finals in 1983 and 1985, and was in the semifinals in 1982, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2005. The Owls also won 4 regional All A championships and 9 district titles during that time. But Owsley hasn't redshirted anyone since the Travis McIntosh-Dakota Roberts class that graduated in 2000. It is catching up with them now.

The winner of the Estill/Lee game should be the favorite to win the 14th.

The winner will have a good chance to win the region. But Hazard and Leslie may have something to say about that.
