I don't know that "simpletons" is the correct word, but we've definitely allowed ourselves to become a nation incapable of having discussions with nuance, subtlety, or distinction.

 

This is a perfect example. All these Congressmen who came out in support of Bundy's battle with the BLM have now been pegged with this guy's moronic comments about what constitutes slavery. (Just so we're all clear on this board... nothing in today's United States involving the government dole is "like slavery". You know what was "like slavery"? "Slavery.")

 

So now instead of being the congressmen that support a battle with the BLM, they're the people who support the old racist coot in Nevada, which is not what anyone set out to do or what anyone cared about when this thing started.

 

We are absolutely unable to separate arguments from the people making them and that's a problem.

 

Even when we do, we only speak about those arguments in broad generalizations and sweeping statements of ideology. There's no room for subtleties: in modern America, we don't have an issue with some people abusing social welfare systems and not finding jobs, we have a problem with "WELFARE QUEENS SNATCHING UP YOUR HARD-EARNED DOLLARS TO SPEND ON CHILDREN THEY CAN'T AFFORD AND WHO WILL NEVER HAVE TO WORK AGAIN!"

 

On the other side of the same coin, we don't have an issue with some people abusing social welfare systems and not finding jobs, we have a problem with "CRONY FAT CATS DESTROYING THE AMERICAN MIDDLE CLASS AND RACIST CORPORATE OVERLORDS CONTROLLING THE CONGRESS AND DESTROYING NEARLY 100 YEARS OF TRYING TO BUILD A BETTER AMERICA!"

Who played the race card in the administration? This dude said this yesterday at his press conference. The real issue, which the guy is famous for is violating laws and court orders, now he just happens to be a racist as well.
