I am traveling, and I don't know how or why Cliven Bundy was speakng on any issue other than the land situation that affects his family. Second, I don't know why anyone would care. Was he asked a question by someone about this (and was dumb enough to try to answer it)?

I'm sure he was prompted by a question. He has a daily news conference according to the article so eventually the press has to ask him questions about something other than land use.

I didn't want to assume that, but I would suspect such a question would be a baiting, and I would have to hear directly and the context of the response to comments. And I don't think it is worth the time. It is not much different than getting Charles Barkley's political views in my mind. There is no doubt that Charles and Cliven are both "characters"....you can expect something offbeat at the least and more likely controversial.

I just read the supposed "musing" by Mr. Bundy. I wouldn't "muse" publicly the way he "mused", but I believe he has a right to a question. I didn't take his statements to be racist, but insensitive and condemning the government's support program, not the people in it. Of course by the time it gets to media America, it is deemed he is a huge racist, and anyone associated with him has to quickly take cover.

Comparing the government dole to slavery is one hundred percent ludicrous and anyone suggesting it should absolutely be taken to task.

I'd say there are more white people on the government dole overall. Welfare has become a vicious cycle for many and they're trapped in the very system that was inteded to help them.

I think he should denounce the remarks. But he should be able to support the land issue at the same time. Unfortunately in today's world that's probably not possible.

And today's politicians play to that lowest common denominator.

 

Way back in the day, I was tasked with writing a couple of articles for the local paper. I was told in no uncertain terms to write on no higher than a 6th grade level.
