Yes I remember it like it was yesterday. It was against the the Ashland Tomcats @ Ellis T Johnson Arena in the 16th Regional Tournament! (Not sponsored by Teresa Wright Jarrell Brooke Wells Enterprises Century 21) Anyway Ashland beat us in a tough game! I came out with a huge black eye! Ashland was lead by a superstar of the 16th Region named Marty Thomas the Region preview that year had him in a tux and it read (Marty,Marty, Marty, and the Thomascats!!) He had a great career at EKU!)

Wasn't high school, but I do remember my last organized basketball game. Twas at St Thomas as a sixth grader. Made the shot that won the game. I think the score was 6-4. Only points I scored all game (might have been the only points I scored all season). Barney Bichter was running the league and named me the mvp for the game (and after the game tried to talk me out of going to Highlands the next year; dang privates were recruiting way back then; told me I'd be a small fish in a big pond. Remember it like it was yesterday). No one need to report this to the KHSAA though. It happened back in 1969 or 1970; St Thomas doesn't have a high school any more; Barney's passed away; and I never contributed much at Highlands anyway (turns out Barney was right about that small fish thing; at least as it related to me). But boy I do remember that jumper from about the foul line. It was sweet. Nothing but backboard, hard metal around the rim and finally net!

Didn't play HS basketball. But I remember my last HS game, it was soccer though.

I don't recall my last high school game. I didn't tryout after my freshman year, so that may be why. I didn't lose interest, I just wasn't having fun. So, I played intramurals and recall those games. Now, I do recall my last baseball game as a senior, and it's not that great of a memory.

I remember not playing in our district loss to Boone Co. I thought I would get one last opportunity but it didn't happen. I remember sitting in the lockeroom after the game wondering what I would do the next day.

Lost in Rupp Arena to eventual state champions Lafayette in 1979. One of the truly great high school teams (Dirk Minnefield -UK, Celtics, Tony Wilson -Western Kentucky University, Jr. Johnson- University of Cincinnati, Kurt Rose- Transy, Jeff Parrott-pitcher in MLB)

Lost in Rupp Arena to Russellville in 2000. Finished in the Elite Eight. Russellville had 6'10'' Tony Key and he was surrounded by some other athletic studs. Lost by 14 but it was a ten point game thoughout. Had a chance to cut it to seven early in the fourth but a three rattled out. That was the toughest. Having a great March run, coming so close, then losing.

I'll never forget it. 33rd District Semifinals against Conner in 2001. The districts were at St. Henry so we had home court advantage. We had lost to Conner in the season by just 4 or 5. I had 13 points and hit some big shots.

 

We were tied and had a last shot in regulation to win it but just missed. We went to OT and were down two with 12 seconds to go. My teammate, Andrew Vieth hit a shot with 2 seconds left to tie the game. We thought we had double OT. Then Terry "Christian Laettner" Johnson walked in the gym, caught the heave took one dibble and banked in a 12-15 foot jumper with me and a teammate right in his face. The worst feeling of my life. Buzzer beater on homcourt with the rights to advance to the regional on the line.

 

Conner went on to lose in the regional finals to SK and then lose in OT to Highlands in the regional Finals.

Only one team can do that, and that is what is so great about Kentucky High School Basketball. :thumb:
