Again, no different than Monday night football. Or Sunday football for that matter. Some teams disappoint, some surprise, and it has nothing to do with the day of the week the play on. All of your examples could just as easily happen on any other day of the week.

There are Bye week considerations, travel considerations, certain weeks that have to be divisional play, Detroit and Dallas are Turkey Thursdays etc. On top of that ANY game in the first 4 weeks could be considered a "good" matchup because all the teams will likely be between 1-3 and 3-1. If 2-2 Baltimore plays 2-2 Pittsburgh in the first half of the season this year you could say "what a great game game CBS got". If 4-7 Baltimore plays 4-7 Pittsburgh in the second half of the season this year you could say, "what a crappy second half of the schedule game."

Most of us at one time or the other have had really tough jobs, maybe you had to pull double shifts, work two jobs to support your family, are forced to cover more sports teams than you have time for, had to work while sick, injured, mentally exhausted, etc. Maybe. But it is never the case where I and everyone else who works with me has to go through that all at the same time — big difference here. I just don't like it because it can create such a competitive disadvantage for the teams on the short week. And the overall quality of play suffers. Just because a game might be competitive in terms of a close score doesn't mean it's necessarily a good game. College does it right in this regard in that you usually don't see many Saturday-Thursday turnarounds for teams because they have more bye weeks built into the schedule and can have longer breaks before and after the Thursday games. Just because the NFL is "a game" doesn't mean it should be immune from hardship and adversity where everything is packaged neatly seven days apart. If you ask me, how teams handle and come through Thursday night games says a lot about them. And from a fan's perspective, it makes the NFL much more interesting. I'm just not so sure. I'd rather have the best possible product on display.

Yes I am quoting myself because this is EXACTLY what I was talking about: Patriots owner Robert Kraft said this week that Belichick “likes the Thursday night games and would be happy to have more than one in a season.” The NFL tries to schedule each team on Thursday once but not give any team two Thursday games unless one of those Thursdays is Thanksgiving or the traditional Week One opener hosted by the Super Bowl champion. The idea behind giving each team only one Thursday game is that it makes the schedule more fair, so no team gets an abundance of short weeks to prepare for Thursday games, or long weeks to prepare for Sunday games following Thursday games. Belichick, however, may feel that he does a better job preparing his team than other coaches during shorter or longer weeks, which means Thursday night games are advantageous to the Patriots. Unfortunately for Belichick, the Patriots only get one Thursday game this year. Belichick likes Thursday games, would gladly take more than one | ProFootballTalk
