April 4, 201412 yr My son and I just had an interesting discussion about an assignment he is doing in high school. In short, his assignment is to come up with and "prove" a modern day "Witch-Hunt" in America. Some past examples given were the Salem witch trials, McCarthyism, and the rounding of Japanese Americans during World War 2. Some more recent items were Muslims after 911 and Edward Snowden as possible witch hunts. My question is, what examples can anyone provide (that at least can be proved in part) of modern day witch-hunts in America?

April 4, 201412 yr Really?! Yep, if you and many others like you had your way those guns would be removed from every home in America. Those guns have been demonized when it should be the murderers that are demonized. People were up in arms over "Those black guns" even though all they knew was that some murderer used one to kill kids.

April 4, 201412 yr I think a big one in this country is the persecution of Muslims, as if every one of them is a terrorist that want to kill the Great Satan (USA). The witch hunt takes many forms, but one that comes to mind is the frenzy stirred up about the so called "ground zero" mosque (located a couple of blocks away from actual ground zero) Another one is the liberal and media attack on 2nd amendment supporters by using "assault rifle" terminology. It is misleading and inflammatory and used to push their political agenda.

I don't have all the facts I need but I think we need to think of it as a "witch hunt" or broad in terms. I believe some of the suggestions already are excellent examples.

April 4, 201412 yr Calling Social Security and Medicade/care entitlements. Not to hijack (we can start another thread if this goes sideways) but those ARE entitlements...we paid into them and are entitled to get our benefits back. Welfare and food stamps aren't entitlements, no one paid into those...they are just government charity more or less.
