Effortless Fundraising??

Featured Replies

Got hit up by a friend on Facebook to support her son. Maybe I am just too old school - are the days of pounding the pavement a thing of the past?? You just push out an email, have a parent post a link on social media and BOOM - all your needs are met?? Posted here because it is a NKy football team that, frankly, you wouldn't suspect had this kind of need.

Some of the advertising on facebook has become excessive, but why wouldn't you explore all avenues to support your team?

Seems easier and more efficient than "pounding the pavement". You reach a much larger audience in a shorter time. And now it's reached all of us.

Social media is just so accessible that it makes it easy to reach a large audience quickly. I know the value of teaching kids to work hard for the things they want to achieve, but everything doesn't have to be difficult to be effective. Work smarter, not harder.

I'm a dinosaur then. Would not be happy at all if our coach chose this route. Can't imagine it would work for a family with multiple athletes and limited number of friends/family to hit up. My kids actually look forward to schlepping the mulch as a team tomorrow. They made up a sales pitch of spreading it for free with an order of 20 bags or more.

To each, his own.

effortless fundraising??

No such animal.

I have no problem with doing a combination of both, but any type of effective fundraising is going to include an online / social media component. It just reaches so many people all over the world. You'd be crazy not to make an effort online.

For what it's worth, a family with multiple athletes is going to have plenty of online friends.

Why would you think they wouldn't have this kind of need?

Really? Feeling more out of touch with every post. I have 3 sons that play high school sports. My circle of friends includes most of their friends' parents who are also selling the gold card, the mulch, the spirit cups, the spirit wear, the drink card, the mattresses. They are already at the golf outing, the cornhole tournament, the poker night. Kid 1 can hit up Uncle B. Kid 2 gets Aunt K. Kid 3 reaches out to Grandpa W. PLEASE tell me how to expand our network. I just can't see asking for a donation. I'd rather write the check if it comes to that. Even a check X3.

There is a certain perception about Ryle, no? I know SEVERAL families with sons on that roster and all but one of them could write the check today. And since only that mom made a public appeal, I'm assuming the rest already have written one.

I could be totally wrong - I know the saying about assuming.

And just to be clear, I do offer whatever my kids are selling via a FB post to my friends. But I just don't think I could do it in exchange for nothing more than a warm fuzzy.

School Fund Raising is a pet peeve of mine...I'm not against raising money for sports, clubs, bands or whatever.

It's just the return they make from fund raising companies versus the amount of sales they generate.

I'm old school. You'd better come to my house, or call me if you want a dime. Won't respond to texts, emails or facebook posts.

Here is the question I have for folks that use these type of company. Why would I pay someone 25% of what is donated to me when all they are doing is holding my money. If I get donations I want all of the money.

I'm with 75 on this one. Better ask me face to face if you want an answer.
