March 22, 201412 yr Coach K is the premier coach in the game. He has won four titles. He's won 82 tournament game with a 77% win rate. He's good. Do they choke occasionally? Heck yeah they do, as does everyone else. But they have been, far and away, the most dominant program of the last 30 years, so I'm good with it. Not quite, but keep telling yourself that if that is what you need to make youself happy.

March 22, 201412 yr Not quite what? Feel free to attempt at proving me wrong. You won't be able to....but have at it.... I think the "Far and Away" part is a bit over the top...Dukes has won 4 titles in that stretch while UK, UNC and UCONN have won three in the same period. Add 6 years to your 30 and UK and UNC have 4each and UL has 3...so yes I will agree Duke has been the best program over the last 30 years but not "Far and Away" the best by any means.
March 22, 201412 yr Not quite what? Feel free to attempt at proving me wrong. You won't be able to....but have at it.... How many wins does Duke have the last 30 years compared to everyone else? If they are far and away the best then they should have by far and away the most wins.
March 22, 201412 yr UK has 4 finals in the last 18 years with 3 championships. I think UK has been the most dominate team by far the last 18 years

I'm not going to bother to go through all the teams, but this is how Duke stacks up against Kentucky (and UNC & Kansas for good measure) in the last 30 seasons (that includes this one, so begins with 84/85): Duke Titles: 4 (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010) Runners-Up: 4 (1986, 1990, 1994, 1999) Final Fours: 11 (1986, 1988-1992, 1994, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2010) 852-204 (.807) Kentucky Titles: 3 (1996, 1998, 2012) Runners-Up: 1 (1997) Final Fours: 6 (1993, 1996-1998, 2011, 2012) 775-248 (.758) North Carolina Titles: 3 (1993, 2005, 2009) Runners-Up: None Final Fours: 9 (1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009) 794-257 (.755) Kansas Titles: 2 (1988, 2008) Runners-Up: 3 (1991, 2003, 2012) Final Fours: 8 (1986, 1988, 1991, 1993, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2012) 855-203 (.808) I added Kansas because I felt pretty confident they were the winningest team of that period.
March 22, 201412 yr They most definitely have had the tendency to choke in recent years. But they're also the #1 college basketball program in my lifetime.
March 22, 201412 yr I've never understood the arbitrary "in the last thirty years" or "in the last twenty years" type arguments. To make a case, anyone can select the time frame that is great for the case and post it.

To make a case, anyone can select the time frame that is great for the case and post it. Agreed. We all know the only time frame that really matters is the current season. What have you done for me lately.
March 22, 201412 yr They most definitely have had the tendency to choke in recent years. But they're also the #1 college basketball program in my lifetime. They've only been to one Final Four in "Your" life time, not sure that makes them #1
March 22, 201412 yr Duke probably does underachieve more in the tourney than anyone else. But, they're usually a high seed so any early loss looks bad. The fact that they are a high seed so often is probably more an indicator that Coach K is a great coach more than their losses are bad on him or the Duke program. Not since the early 2000s would I call Duke supremely talented. Great talent of course, but usually I think UK under Cal, Kansas, UNC usually have more raw talent. Let's revisit this conversation next year when he should have a ton of talent and more of a complete basketball team (actually having a post-presence).
March 23, 201412 yr The look on coach K's face after a first round loss to a double digit seed is PRICELESS. (Yea, I'm A Duke hater!!)

He had a ton of talent THIS YEAR, at least enough talent to beat Mercer. :lol2: Saw Dicky V crying like a baby and going to the mental heath center. J/K

Lots of talent, but absolutely no post presence in Durham this year. Won't be a problem next year. Granted the wing talent won't be as good but the team may fit together better. Plenty enough talent to beat Mercer, but this team was flawed from the beginning.
