What about "open gym" for softball? Not everyone plays travel ball.

I can say this, at the 1st two meetings of the Northern Kentucky Softball Coaches Association last fall, Chris Schreiber, who runs the CCRSGL, was there and addressed ALL the high school coaches about putting a summer league together for high school teams. He asked that all that were interested to get with him by the 1st of April so he could put things together.........he got ZERO response by his deadline. I know several teams have quite a few girls playing on travel teams, but there are plenty that could have benefitted by playing in this league.

I once again witnessed a pathetic attempt to cheat one team and favor another by Chris this past Monday night. Our game was going into the top of the 5th and we just finished the inning in the field. The score was 11-9 favor Sound Solutions. While the girls from Sound Solutions were getting their batting helmets and bats together a very close lightning strike hit nearby. All girls were ordered to vacate the Dugouts and head for shelter. (No pitch was thrown yet in the top of the 5th) After about a 30-40 delay the Umpire wanted to call the game but with no hesitation, Chris said he wasn't going to call the game because the team in the field had already thrown one pitch to start the top of the 5th inning....Mind you that Chris's daughter plays for Stegman Landscaping who was the opposing team. The Umpire and Chris decided to exchange a few choice words in disagreement with one another about pitch count and Chris one out because of his Authority. A parent from our team calmly chimed in standing nearby and Chris wanted no part of his input and Ejected him from the park for the entire tourney. Not just that night! Really.....Is this for real?

 

So we show back up Wed night at 5:30 @ Kenton Lakes to finish our Monday night game. We score 5 quick runs in a matter of 10 mins to end the game and push Stegman to the losers bracket. Fortunately we were scheduled to play another game or it would of been a very wasted trip on account of someone's stubbornness. This is not the 1st run in we have had with Chris. Is it because he cant stand the fact that we are from Ft Thomas or was someone just not hugged very much as a kid. Whatever it is, it's a shame that someone would use his Authority to diminish girls hard work and time for the short term gain of others.

 

I am so very thankful that we don't have to participate in that league in the future because our girls will be too old for the league. My point is, maybe those coaches at that coaches meeting knew what they would be getting in if they decided to travel down that very corrupt path with dealing with Chris.

First I was not at the game, but I do know that without Chris and a few other good people, Campbell Co Softball would be nothing, they started this program and it has helped every High School team in Campbell Co. We now have caught up with Kenton and Boone Co Fastpitch. I think CC softball has over 700 girls playing Softball. Also about not liking Highlands, Chris ran the 9th region tour. this year that Highlands won and was the first person to shake Robs Hand. So thank you Chris and your board for Campbell Co. Softball.

I'm going to present the facts bc I'm a huge advocate of this league and I was present when all of this took place. I will refrain from using names bc I don't believe in calling people out personally on a public forum such as this.

 

1. There were 4 games the night of this incident. 2 games were completed before the lightning. 2 were not. The four coaches from the 2 incomplete games, the umps, Chris (I'll use his name since I'm defending his work and the league's reputation) and the owner of the complex got together and discussed when to complete the games. Wed at 5:30 was agreed upon by all since they were tournament games. ALL agreed to complete the games and not call them after 4 innings etc. The fact that a pitch was thrown already in the next inning has nothing to do with the status of the game. IF the ump wanted to consider it a complete game he/she would simply go back to the last completed inning and that score would determine the game. But all involved wanted to finish the game.

 

2. The parent that was "ejected" for the entire tourney did NOT calmly chime in. First of all it was not his place to give his input. Those who are running the tournament are quite capable of making decisions such as when to finish a youth softball game. The umps, owner of the complex, director and division supervisors have done a great job all year dealing with the rain and weather, I personally feel they could deal with this issue as well without his help. Second, he was anything but calm. He was using foul language such that could never be repeated on this forum. I was flabbergasted when I heard him yelling in front of these girls, and younger siblings, all over a youth softball game! He also threatens to take Chris out to the parking lot etc. We parents all signed paperwork before the season waiving the league from responsibility of injury to our girls and promising to act in a sportsmanship manner as adults. They were new waivers this year. I would have been disappointed had the league NOT suspended him for his actions.

 

3. As far Chris not being able to "stand the fact that you are from Ft. Thomas". Seriously? Why would he, or anyone else for that matter, have anything against people from Ft Thomas more than people from Alexandria, Highland Heights, Newport, Bellevue etc? Sounds like you, or the parent who tried to "chime in", unless you're one and the same, needs an ego check. Are Ft. Thomas people so much better than others that people are supposed to envy or "hate" you? That is the most ludicrous statement I've ever heard. I also have a daughter in a younger division and there's a "Ft Thomas" team so-to-speak in that division. And I believe there are two "Ft. Thomas" teams in another. I don't think its location. I think it's the people.

 

4. I've had nothing but great experiences with this league. I have 2 daughters playing now and they play 10-12 games during the season and a league tourney. All those who run the league, the umpires, the owner of Kenton Lakes, they all have provided my daughters a wonderful experience.

 

And btw...Thunderbirds, congrats. I believe your team won the tournament after all.

From an outsider looking in, Thunderbirds comments sounds awful defamatory. Why haven't the powers that be at BGPs taken action against his ridiculous comments. If I were "Chris," I'd seek legal advice.....

If you are an outsider looking in, I would assume you don't know whether there is any validity to Thunderbirds' claims and as such, throwing out comments about legal advice are quite premature to say the least.

This specific division is for girls ages 6-8. However Chris does a wonderful job overseeing all of Campbell County Fast Pitch softball. Girls ages kindergarten thru grade 8 participate in the league. As was stated, this league has brought Campbell County softball to a point where these girls can compete with girls from Boone and Kenton Counties. Congrats Highlands for being the first of hopefully many regional champions from this side of the river.

Hmmm interesting. Wait! First off, welcome to the site. I looked back at all your "30" or so posts and didn't see where anyone welcomed you to the site. Lawnboy may have, so if he did, welcome anyway!

 

How so on your accusation of "defamatory" comments. Apparently TBirds witnessed this first hand and apparently not the first time either. So if he did witness this, then it's factual correct? Per TBirds that is. And everyone else that was there. Just sayin!

 

Seems to be a bit blown out of proportion IMO. Again, just saying.

I'm guessing Chris is a big boy and can handle BGP.

I too have girls that played in the younger league this year. This is our second year with this league. The communication was not great. I dont think its a hatred of Fort Thomas, just a sign of not nice people. It sure is a long drive out there every week. Mr. Coffey could build quite a feeder program by doing a summer league at that new fancy field. P.S. I hear someone is starting a league in Fort Thomas and city is on board...awful lot of people in that league residing in 41075...

I think its far fetched to give the campbell rural league even one ounce of credit for Highlands title. My opinion is, if another option for a league is formed and available, many people will be more than willing to give the new league a try as opposed to the rural league. Even in its infant stages. I think there's a number of factors for this and I don't know the director.

I'm so tired of hearing about Ft. Thomas. Last time I checked, the world did not revolve around that part of Northern Ky. Beautiful city and a good school system but really?
