I'd have to say that Ashland, Russell, Elliott, and the winner of the Fairview-Boyd game would have to be the favorites now. But who knows, some of those teams could be upset too.

When Maynard picks your team in the Independent, it's like having Death tap you on the shoulder with his sickle...

 

Heartbreaking end to the season for Morgan, but who knows how far West will go? ANY team that makes it to Morehead has a chance.

I believe Maynard accurately predicted every single game in the regional tournament last year for both girls and boys.

I predict an Elliott County first round upset.

First, Morgan County never overlooked West Carter at any point in preparation or during the game. The 100% credit goes to the West Carter basketball team. They out did Morgan Co. in every facet of the game. They had a game plan and executed to perfection. The Comets hardly ever turned the basketball over. 1 at halftime and probably less than 3 in 2nd half or maybe game.

 

While Kalen Jones was unstoppable...he would hit three's or simply penetrate and create his shot, I believe one of West's spark plugs was PG Daniel Barker. He ran an excellent PG, distributing, running the offense, and playing very poised. That is where I think the Comets really clicked.

 

Congrats to Stan McGlone and staff for an excellently played basketball game. It was well officiated, so nobody can say the "refs" cost 'em the game. It was a case in which West Carter beat the Cougars fair and square. They earned it and will advance.

In fairness to Maynard, and the rest of the Independent staff, I don't think Jimmy the Greek could pick better than 40% of these games correctly this year.

All three of those teams you mentioned have to make it to region before they think about winning it. I remember an Elliott County team last year that beat Lewis 44 in the regular season and ended up getting beat by that same team in districts. Gotta show up ready to play, its win or go home!

Mark Maynard is like a brother to me. In real life, he is an excellent friend, a great family man, as honest as the day is long, a devout Christian, and on top of all of that, he's a safe driver.

 

I can't brag on his writing though, as it might swell his head....

I will have to stick with my Lions until they lose, but it will depend alot on which Elliott team shows up tomorrow night. If the team that beat Morgan on the road shows up, then they should win. However, if the team that lost 3 of the last 4 games shows up, they will go home. This game will come down to how well "Coach" Mays has prepared this team over the past week.

Maybe I knew it was going to be a bad night when "PARKING" became an issue before the game. I was asked by several fans in addition to my own relocation, as to why Morgan Co. fans (Or at least some) could not park in the parking lot. One person said of the thousands of $$$ that has been generated by tax, and by MY contributions, I would think that I could park in a parking spot that is not "taken". In addition, the West Carter team was frustrated by where they had to unload and park.

 

But hey it's Morgan CO. :thumb: And with this last read between the lines jab...I feel for all those Morgan Co. fans who were/are so loyal to the basketball program, supporting, traveling and giving their honest support. Maybe that less than 1% group of 14,000+ Morgan Countians can cheer a little bit right now, knowing the humbling that just got served....a good old fist pump that the almighty Cougars were defeated and have it handed to them on their home floor. But, what can you say...it's sports and wins and losses happen. There will be tons of frustation of his loss, but in order to have class and professionalism, it should be noted that the full credit goes directly to West Carter Boy's Basketball team. Should also be a very interesting off season in the Morgan Co. sports area. Stay tuned.
