Corky Prater was another one I also thought of. Good call chief. He was the kinda guy I was thinking of when I started this thread.

 

Tony Burchett at Powell is another that wins around 7 games a year with little talent.

All good coaches Chief, but I have to comment on Coach Brown. When it comes to doing more with less, he excels. I'm not just talking about quality of athletes, but he has little money for his program and he has very few assistant coaches. Coach Brown is a great man, does great things for his players and exemplifies what a high school coach should be.

I agree. One of my favorite people in HS football.

 

I also got a great parenting tip from Kevin at a basketball game this winter. Before a guy can take his daughter on a date in a car, the guy has to take Kevin out for a drive and Kevin decides if he is a good enough driver. My 15 year old daughter is especially appreciative of Kevin's words of wisdom. :lol2:

I think very little money and not very many assistant coaches was a common thing that most of the coaches I was thinking about

 

A lot of people would be surprised at the programs that have to raise most of the money to run their program.

There are lots of Coaches that get a ton out of their kids on the field. I feel like most of these also get it out of them off the field as well. Character Coaches make a difference.

When I was in high school, there was an assistant coach who used the Jimmy's and Joe's quote a lot. "It's not the Xs and Os, it's the Jimmy's and Joes."

 

 

And his Xs and Os sucked.

Glad you mentioned him. Hated him in my playing days. :thumb:

 

Got to meet him when doing radio and admired what he did at RC. He took a terrible program, saw the two teams he had to beat (Boyle n Somerset) and focused on that. Never had great talent but great plans coupled with dedicated boys did the trick. It really showed when he went to Campbellsville.

 

I know he never got Xmas cards from Ed Rall. :sssh:
