All A revisit!

1. Yes the other sports recognize it as state champs

2. It is not just another tournament win or lose

3. It is a State tournament for schools that qualify for it.

We have 6 classes for football and recognize 6 state champions and we 1 other tournament for basketball and people get all worked over it.

You might want to thank the All A because it keeps talk of classification for basketball down.

You are EXACTLY right on this statement. I mentioned this fact to a member of the All A tourney recently and told him the KHSAA should thank them. If this tourney didn't exist I guarantee there would have been multiple lawsuits for classification by now. If you think not, ask anyone who is really in the know.

And who do you think is going to foot the bill if only these really small teams are involved. You seem to forget this is a self sustaining tourney dollar wise. You have to have a decent number of teams (120) to make enough money to cover the expenses. Believe me the people running this tourney know more about runnning this thing and making it a success than anyone in the state.

Agree and the the All A does abetter job financially for the teams making it than the KHSAA does.

Great points and your absolutely correct.

Don't misread me. I don't know why people get all worked up over basketball. The All A has a tournament in other sports too - where's the outrage for those?

I'm all for classes in every sport. Bring it on.

Send them to NewCath, because they are ALWAYS in the hunt for rings and banners in the All "A" and KHSAA in all sports, boys and girls. Truth in sarcasm.

This is great! No sense in trying to sugar coat it or hide it! Just let it out there. Lol

So who's the "State Champ"? The Butler/E-Town winner today from Diddle? Or Glasgow who won the All-A? If the answer is both, then don't tell me you are against classes, because you are recognizing that we have 2. You can't be for the All-A as a defacto small school State Championship, but against having classes.

on.

There is no outrage. Not sure why basketball gets it.

You beat me to the punch.

When have I EVER "sugar-coated" anything.

So, I'm curious RCC9...if Guru wins the lottery this weekend, and wants to hold a state-wide BGP Tournament next year that takes two weeks to play, with an exclusive invitation list of 100 schools from across the Commonwealth, and books the Yum Center for the final four days of the tournament, with the winners getting a 6-foot tall trophy and are crowned BGP's State Champions...you have a problem with that, too?

Does he invite who he wants across all classes or is pre-determined and segmented by a specific qualification? And it would depend on how those teams were determined and the intentions of the tournament. Like I said, if you just want to highlight some of the better All A teams, then have a christmas tourment, invite the best A teams and give the winner a trophy. But don't tell me how this is an opportunity for the small schools that otherwise wouldn't have a chance, get rings, call yourselves state champions and hang banners. You can act like this is "just another tournament" all you want. But I've told you why it's not. It's a way to continue to keep the KY sweet 16 and attempt to keep the smaller schools from complaining so that they can keep "their baby" intact. The problem is the A tournament really ONLY provides an opportunity for about 30% of those small schools. And those 30% have the same opportunity that every other school in the state does in the sweet 16. Why does a very good A school deserve a second chance at a state title when there are hundreds of non-A schools that have never come close to winning a title. If we feel the Sweet 16 is the way to go in KY, why do we make up tournaments that segment out 2/3rds of the state and call it a state tournament? Yea, I know...it's not a state. Just another tournament. C'mon! Really?

If larger schools want to have a tourney to showcase schools that have never been to state , then go for it.

Because you put the all A together right? Who did that for your kid.

RCC9...I got to hand it to you. You crack me up. The paragraph in italics is classic, especially the bolded phrases.

You "just about", "could have had" an argument, but dang it, "just abouts", "one game away", "almost", and "could have hads", don't hold up well in trying to build a solid case.

Question...how come you did not mention the 6 teams that made the ALL A state bracket, went to a college floor venue, had an awesome experience that they will remember a long time, BUT DID NOT even get out of their district to play in their regional tournament?

Trimble, Sayre, Louisville Collegiate, Paintsville, Morgan County, Green County...for those girls, schools, students, coaches and families I am thankful for the ALL A tournament. I know they enjoyed it regardless that they did not win the trophy. Its about the going as much as the winning.

It is crazy to build a case on 4 teams from the ALL A state bracket that made both when there were 12 teams from the ALL A state bracket that did not. And there was 6 teams in the ALL A state tournament that did not even get out of their district to make regionals. You four is less than the 12 and 6 that work against you.

The same reason I don't mention all the non-A schools that did the same thing! Didn't make it out of their district or region. We want to say look at all the poor little A schools. Well there are hundreds of other non-A schools in the same boat! And my point is to point out that the better A schools can compete anyway. Just because some of them didn't make it out of their district doesn't tell me anything. For the top 30% A schools (which is what the A is for) that didn't make it out, I can show you two larger schools that didn't either. So those A kids got an second chance to play in the arena. Why should they have that opportunity and the rest that don't get that opportunity be segmented and not allowed to get that same opportunity?

Because you put the all A together right? Who did that for your kid.

RCC9 .. you have some decent insight on a lot of basketball issues.

But on this topic, each time you express your opinion, you lose more and more credibility. Your constant whining is akin to fingernails on a chalkboard. It's painful.

For the sake of everyone who enjoys this forum ..

JUST ... PLEASE ... STOP!!! Again, STOP! It's a useless, futile argument.

Your right, the big task is too much for some of these small schools and the All A tourney provides them an opportunity to experience some success. What's wrong with that? Life is about taking advantage of your opportunities and growing as an individual. This tournament provides that opportunity. That doesn't make anyone soft or have a sense of entitlement. This tournament is not teaching the kids the wrong thing. It's teaching them that even though they may not be able to defeat the Goliath's, with hard work and dedication they can still succeed. It's obvious you have no clue about how important this tournament is for the little guys but I do and so do all of those who have had the pleasure of watching their kids participate in it. Get over it, sorry the Birds don't have this opportunity. Maybe you and some others can come up with something similar to meet your needs. Your bashing of this tournament is getting quite comical.

Funny, the little guys. Really? So you're telling me Dayton, Bellevue, Calvary, Cov Latin, Ludlow, Silver Grove. It's a great experience for them? Or are they getting demolished by the Brossarts and NCC's that were favored in their regular regions anyway. Tell me how that's a great experience for them.Remember, only about 30% or less have ever had success in the A tournament. It's usually between 2 teams every year from each region that has has any success. No one else comes close. And why does a program like Brossart and NCC get more chances to experience something like this more than Scott, Cooper, Highlands, Cov Cath, and many others! NCC and Brossart were picked to win their regions. And obviously many others had a shot because of what the results were. In half the regions, an A team either won it or was runner up. So tell me why the "little guys" need an extra shot. The real little guys have Zero chance to even compete in the all A. That's funny!

So when you daughter is at work and looking to get a promotion and she doesn't get it because of someone else if bigger or better, are you going to provide her another opportunity? Are you going to tell her to go for something different because that one position will be too hard to win. Or are you going to tell her to work harder so she is prepared next time that postion comes up? Not sure why today we feel like we need to provide all these different opportunities to succeed. Most of these kid will be in the real world in just a couple years and NOONE provides second opportunities to succeed. You compete against the best everyday. You either win or learn to deal with it. Some learn to fight harder and some learn where they stand. If you create oppportunities because one mountain is too high to climb, then they will expect that in life. Therefore, they have become soft because things have been handed to them or provided for them all their life. It's exactly what is going on in the US now and this tournament represents exactly that.

RCC, does your wife know that you are advocating for the demise of a tournament that is kind of a big deal at her alma mater?

Seriously, it's just a tournament. No big deal.

Yes, her step children go to a bigger school and now she sees why the A is a guided by false pretenses.
