I want to reiterate what Rockmom said. If this was any no name person he would have already been in jail and would have served the time awaiting his federal lock-up in a county jail. Richie certainly still seems to think that he's entitled to special treatment.

 

I should also add, a lot of people of limited means actually wind up doing sententces for offenses that people with means avoid. That chaps my patootie big time.

That's not true. I know of many no named people who committed violent crimes and were given a report date months after their sentence use given to them. Federal prison.

Of course it's not equal. Never said it was. If I were in trouble I'd have the best lawyer money could buy not the guy assigned to my case.

The only point I was making is that no names aren't always sitting in the county jail awaiting their time to be sent to prison. I know people who went home for a month or two after receiving their sentence and Richie and his mustache isn't one of those people. It happens more than people think.

I'm talking people who can't afford a high-powered attorney, or don't have family/friends to up the money. I'm talking about people of ordinary families who hire an attorney, yet the Judge decides they want to make a name for themselves and pick an issue to be "tough" on. I'm talking about politics in the judicial system and that "luck of the draw" of ones circumstances. There are a lot more poor people who sit in jail awaiting trial, then sitting in jails waiting to be taken to their eventual prison.

As an active private hire criminal defense attorney this statement chills me to the core, if you ever work with innocent people charged with a felony you will understand. Everyone deserves fair representation, now I get some lawyers are better than others, but being poor shouldn't result in you serving a harsher prison sentence.

 

I think the truth behind this statement is why it bothers me so much.
