Does anyone know the latest on the state of the program? Have any more boys signed up? Are they going to field a team this year?

The program is fine much to the chagrin of some of the folks on here with axes to grind. There are 18 kids signed up to play in the high school and they are hoping to add 4 or 5 kids from the freshman class. There are also 13 8th graders that will be playing for the Colt's program this year. Brossart had 21 or 22 kids last season and they graduated 9 seniors I believe. That means 5 or 6 kids in the building who didn't play last year have decided to play this year. So much for the relationship with the coach ruining things. They have had some issues with attendance at the winter program but it has nothing to do with kids not planning on playing. It is the fact that at a small school most of the kids play multiple sports and have to meet their in season obligations. The numbers certainly aren't where the coaches hope to get to but they will get there.

No axe to grind. I hope the program flourishes. It was just a question. My question was based on past experience of your coach. Did you read the part that said " I was hoping it would't " Not that I want the program to fail or the kids to suffer. I'm glad it's working. Jumping to conclusions is good exercise. Stay in shape my friend.

This is not going to be an quick fix for Brossart as far as the low numbers. There is a limited amount of football talent in the Central/Southern Campbell County area where Brossart gets its enrollment and there are other schools (Campbell County is improving, New Cath has had a very good run, and Cov Cath has even gotten a few with their strong tradition.) I don't think there is a lot of talent walking the halls of Brossart not playing (or they would be at another school playing). It will have to come from the grade school level and I think Brossart is really going to have to sell there program to get some of the grade school/middle school players to become a Mustang. Not going to be easy, but with going back to 1A after this year will certainly help as far as competing with schools in their district.

Just noticed this thread. I am not up to speed with the state of the football program. Any time I have asked the answer has been that they hope a few more boys will come out. At the moment I can confidently confirm the number of 18 committed to the program.

 

Coach Teegarden is a non-issue. He has the confidence of the admiistration, the kids, the fans, and the parents. He ran a great program last season with what he had to do it with and the group showed improvement. Not being in the building is a detriment. Do I think we have football players walking our halls who could play and help the team??? Probably not. Do we have boys walking the hall that could play football??? Yes we do, and these are the guys who we need to get out for the team. There are a couple of guys who had played in the past who are making a return to the gridiron this year. The basketball team roster is not as loaded with basketball specific players as it has been in the past, and I think a few of these guys could make a contribution on the football field, and it might even benefit them come hoops season. Soccer is the two-headed monster that draws the majority of our fall-sport males. A few run cross-country. However, soccer players are soccer players and I'd be hard pressed to name 6 or 7 who would make major contributions on the football field.

 

The fact that we are going back to 1-A is light at the end of the tunnel and may be the make or break factor that keeps the football program viable. Bellevue, Ludlow, and Dayton (or Bracken, Nicholas, and Paris) will all remain major challenges to our football program for awhile, but they are not NCC, HOly Cross, Lloyd, and Newport.

 

I agree wholeheartedly with the comment made here about facilities. We need to make a concerted effort to provide our program with the space, equipment, and facilities to demonstrate support for this program. Now that we have a kick-butt chapel, state-of-the-art theater, and are a first class college prep high school, it is high time to turn our attentions to providing our athletic teams with the same opportunities. Significant improvements have been made to our gym, and short of building a new one, those of us who call the SyDome home have no complaints with the volleyball and basketball venue. Our focus needs to now shift to the Gilbert Ridge property and develop it into a first-class soccer, football, and track/field practice complex. Over $8 million was raised for the forementioned addition and gym enhancement project. More money continues to be pledged. The new facility will be completely paid for in a matter of a few years. IF we want to stay viable athletically, the next step has to be to bring our Gilbert Ridge athletic facilities up to speed.

I was looking at the KHSAA schedules and noticed the district opponents (NewCath, Newport, Lloyd, Holy Cross) were all on the schedule, even though Brossart dropped out of district play. I'm assuming the schedule was loaded in before the decision. What does the new Brossart schedule look like? Are they playing 10 games?

With the dead period for Brossart ending the 14th of July has there been a head coach named yet. Schools will be doing the "pre season", none contact drills before the pads come on the 1st of August.

Actually, I am a fan. You'd be surprised at how much I know about the football Mustangs. Just not very enamored with how they have chosen to conduct football business. It is being treated as a hobby.

 

 

As far as being constructive, it is like your auto tech telling you you need $3000 worth of repairs and your car bluebooks $2000. There is simply too much wrong at this point to fix.
