Actually, I am a fan. You'd be surprised at how much I know about the football Mustangs. Just not very enamored with how they have chosen to conduct football business. It is being treated as a hobby.

 

 

As far as being constructive, it is like your auto tech telling you you need $3000 worth of repairs and your car bluebooks $2000. There is simply too much wrong at this point to fix.

 

Glad to hear you're a fan, and unfortunately I agree with some of your statements. I've detailed my feelings on the way they went about starting the program, the timing of said event, the many coaching miscues, etc. in other threads; so I won't got through it again. Suffice it to say, we probably agree on many of those points.

 

I disagree that its time to "total the car" however. While this season will be a challenge, and one that I hope the kids just get through as unscathed as possible; the future isn't bleak enough to end the program. While it may have been best to just start over, the decision was made to forge on and keep their district commitments. Hopefully the new regime will keep the non-conference part of the 2015 schedule light, and allow whoever the new coaching staff is, time to build in their new Class A district, where if they can only get back to previous levels, they can most certainly be competitive.

 

Hopefully the new staff will find a few more bodies in the hallways, and beef up the numbers a little for 2014; as well as create some enthusiasm at the younger levels for 2015 and beyond. Aside from sheer numbers, the program most desperately needs continuity at the coaching level. I wouldn't be opposed to giving a younger assistant with some ties to the area a shot, assuming an established Head Coach isn't out there, that may see the potential in this job? I wouldn't underestimate Dan Ridder's appointment as Principal; as he has a lot of ties to area football coaches--Could he lure a "name" into giving it a try?

Well starting with 20 players and a new coach is not going to help matters but they could actually win Game 2 since I'm not sure that team is really a OHSAA school and Brossart has beat them in the past. And I would expect they can be competitive with Dayton, Bracken, Ludlow. Problems really come when the 2A portion hits and there are less than 20 players and running clocks galore. Survival mode then.
