Your favorite team must not have won region.

I'm not a fan of the region swapping but I get the premise behind it.

 

I see bad calls every game regardless of the region or when the game is played. It happens. People are human and they make mistakes. I think fans put too much emphasis on what the refs do instead of what their favorite team didn't do. In most cases, they didn't win the game. End of story.

It doesn't seem like fans are typically very happy with the new refs they get in for region tournament games. Is that just a case of fans always complaining about officiating, or is there an legitimate issue? It seems odd you would swap out your usual officials for the biggest games of the season.

 

How long has this been going on? Are you for or against Ref Swapping?

 

Regions have swapped refs for as long as I can remember. For awhile though, some regions chose not to swap with others and just kept their own.

 

I can see both sides.

 

With scratches, etc. you are probably going to see your region's pool decimated unless your officials are part of a larger organization that calls multiple regions like the BBA or Louisville's equivalent.

 

At the same time, some regions, on the whole just have better officials than others (i.e., more likely to be calling high school games and trying to work their way up into the college ranks or if nothing else a deeper pool of quality officials).

 

The regions who are probably hurt worst are those whose officials are the ones who lose their "good" officials and have them replaced with others who might not be up to par.

Here's the easy way to deal with that...eliminate scratches. I mean, how in the heck did the coaches get the power to decide who doesn't work their game? Seriously, if that was the case in MLB, Angel Hernandez and CB Bucknor would never umpire again.

I'm guessing that attending a school, having children who attend there, having formerly coached at a program, or having a close family relation with a ref means they aren't calling your games either.

THAT, I fully understand and agree with. But a coach being able to go off his rocker during/after a game and basically tell an official (through the scratch process) that he'll never work another (insert school here) game again, is nothing short of ludicrous.

The way I understand scratches, each school only gets 2, so you have to use them judiciously. I think that people might be surprised at how some schools use them, not because they feel that their team would be slighted in most instances, but maybe more so that they feel 'x' official favors 'y' school instead.

In the 16th there is one official who openly cheers for a program when he is not calling a game. Would you want him on your games?

Not just one. There's one from Fleming, one from Bath, one from Lewis and the list goes on.

Those are conflict of interest they can't call games at that school.

Refs can scratch schools as well
