I would invite you to come to Bardstown for some bourbon and games next season to see how different (rough) the 5th Region is compared to the 9th.

 

Love to. I do see games around the state as I travel for work. I fully realize people call it differently. Heck, my style is to let a lot more go than many regardless of region. I allow for physical ball. Many do not.

9th region has some of the best the state can offer, but I can see where other fans from different regions would feel the way you do. As good as some of them are, inconsistency is something I noticed at times as well.

Think of it this way: If you are using your regions officials then the coaches "scratches" come into play. Coach A has scratched the 1,3,5th ranked officials and Coach B has scratched 2,4,6th officials. Now you have your 7th,8th, 9th best offical working that championship game.

 

Also I am sure that a few years back two 11th region schools were scratching officials based on which ones the other team liked because they would likely play each other.

 

With out of region officials there is very little prior relationships and no scratches. Also much less of a chance of the official anticipating who is supposed to win.

The 16th region refs calling the 11th region tournaments have been about as inconsistent and poor as any group I have seen. I have never been a huge fan of the BBA officials but the difference in these two groups are miles apart!

A question...Could the ref swap have been a factor in the PRP kids ejection? Actions that would be allowed to slide by one group of officials not being tolerated by another group? That said I have for years wanted to see more Ts called to cut down on some of the taunting and showboating.

I HAVE seen a huddle on a foul call. The dreaded "blarge" call, which incidentally I believe to be ridiculous because it can't be a charge AND a block at the same time.

I think the bunch that has been doing the 10th Region has been okay. Not great, but not awful. They've made some bad calls, but they've made them against all the teams. I've not seen a game in the tournament where officiating was even close to being a determining factor.

 

I really like the swapping refs idea for the Regional tournaments.

The one change I would like to see is that refs cannot go into a region that their home region will play in the first round of state. We had that this year in the 6th region. The 5th region refs were the officials. Almost every game in the tournament had at least one technical called. One team might get a warning then the other team gets the T. One of the refs was a principal at a 5th region school. If your school possibly could play against a team you are officiating, it becomes a conflict of interest.

I think the pressure of a tournament situation increases the number of complaints. That would be natural.

 

I also agree that switching officials from region to region is good preparation for the guys you will see at state.

It is only that because 2 officials signaled one with a block and the other a charge. It was done at the same which the result is a double foul.

I've seen this with an extended huddle. Then in the end, it was still a double-foul. Why even huddle? I feel like you're punishing two players because the officials cannot agree. I think I'd rather see a jump ball called rather than assessing two fouls.

Worst officiated 10th region tournament I've ever witnessed.
