I cannot say how thankful I am that social media didnt exist to this level as I was growing ip. Makes tough guys out of a lot of people, not to mention my errors as a young adult.

 

I don't disagree with you. Getting a D1 scholly to a top 25 school (and Auburn was the defending national champion) is something that isn't easy to do. I don't think a single person has said he doesn't (or didn't) have some rare talent. He absolutely did. However, based on his track record and actual accomplishments ON the field, that talent rarely translated into success. And it's not fair to blame his problems on social media. This board and no one on this board caused (or could have prevented) any of his problems. The results would have been the same with or without BGP, Facebook, or Twitter. These boards and social media tend to recognize extremes.....whether they are successes or failures. And even if this happened in 1982 (or whatever year you want to pick before social media), plenty of people would have known about and talked about his problems.

This. It amazes me that people actually seem to enjoy watching the life of a young man spiral out of control. Success breeds jealousy, and jealousy breeds contempt. Dont know this young man, but I sure am glad so many people on here live perfect lives and have perfect children.

 

AMEN, I was trying to respond to this, and you said it better than I could of. I've know the young man for years, does have a good heart. Hoping always for the best for him, pray he does get on the right path.

Kid has demons, issues, addictions no doubt about it, has for some time. He has gotten help from various avenues over time and chooses to continue to make the decisions he does. At some point, "kinda like the bad train wreck analogy" you have to let life take its course. Part of me hopes that some jail time will wake him up, part of me thinks it wont help. Who knows. The ball is in Zeke's court, what he does with it is up to him.

Agree. Where I have issues is when some actually appear to find joy in this train wreck. Its none of our business, i pray the kid and his family figure it out.

If you're talking about an athletic scholarship, you'd probably be right. Me personally, I think academic scholarships to good schools is a far better, more rewarding accomplishment, but hey that's just me. Some people look at sports as the be all, end all I guess.

Agree. At some point, however hard it is to do, you just have to let hit the bottom. Could be that friends and family keep bailing him out of troubles. He's not the first to have issues like this, because we have discussed quite a few over the years here on BGP, and he won't be the last.

 

Some on here say it's none of our business and we should just not discuss it. Maybe they are correct, but news reports are public and fly around social media fast. In today's world, almost nothing is private. I think the reason some of us post criticism is we think what we could have done athletically with half his talent. I'd like to think I wouldn't have squandered it however those were different times back then, not much access to a lot of things when I was young especially money and a car. I'm not making any excuses for Zeke, he's old enough to know wrong from right. He'll pay for it later, when he graduates to that team of "What Could Have Beens".

Agreed 100%! Not sure anyone wants someone to fail, including a kid (when Zeke was a kid years ago).

 

But facts are facts. Yes, he got a scholarship to Auburn, some would so on the future talent, others will say otherwise, but a D1 scholly!

 

Other than that, what else has he done that would make one think that he has turned the corner? Again, facts, as others have said he is a class A jerk! From back at Turkeyfoot and onto Dixie, and beyond Dixie. Suspended from HS ball a few times, as well as kicked off the team of two D1 teams. See any good patterns here?

 

I would say being kicked off of two D1 teams kinda takes away the getting a D1 offer don't you think? I would rather struggle, as well as possibly see my kids struggle than to go through/ or have my kids go through the stuff Zeke has been doing. It's laughable that people would even attempt to say others are jealous of him? I can see a few years ago when he got the D1 scholly, but now? Come on!

 

Some say "it's no one else's business, yet turns around and say they will pray for him and his family'? Why? Can]t one say it's none of your business to pray for him? That is how it sounded. It IS our business! And I am sure anyone would be happy be wrong about where he is heading. but enough with the crying! He is a man now, and unless his enablers get through to him or change course, I am afraid to say he will end up seriously injured, or worse, seriously injuring someone else.

 

Having said that, I still hope he gets a clue on life and gets the help he needs, and truly changes course!

Last i checked this wasnt a college academic board. If one of those exists please let me know. Again, despite the naysayers, amongst all the anonymous superstars I would bet the farm there arent many SEC football players around here. UK does not count as an SEC program btw.

Right, and like I said, who cares? He got a full ride college scholarship for football. That's awesome. I got one for academics. I couldn't get one for football, and he couldn't get one for academics. Everyone has different talents. I can assure you that no one on here is jealous of his squandered opportunities.
