Nailed it. This senior class was loaded with talent in trems of girls basketball it's in coming Freshmen year and I would have to agree they never reached it's potential. The biggest knock I had on Coach Feldman (and I got along well with him) when my daughter played for him and I've hread it from other parents over the last few years is ADJUSTMENTS are never made when necessary. Coach Feldman will be at Brossart as long as he wants I don't see them feeling a need to change.

This is a little strong on the senior class. There ended up being 5 seniors on the team. One became region player of the year another a 1,000 pt scorer. Another didn't become a starter till her senior year and was a good piece to puzzle. Other 2 played their roles but weren't big scorers (maybe 4 pts a game total between both) . This doesn't spell out a can't miss unbelievably talented class. Good and they won a lot of games but not great . In the end they probably met expectations of what was realistic. Did you expect multiple state titles from this group?

So now we base our success on the failure of others. They failed so if we fail it's OK.

We lose to Danville, a game we should have won.............but it's OK NOW cause NCC lost to them too!!!!

Great group of kids, but they were not as committed to basketball as some other teams were in the off season. I dont think you can fault the coach for that.

Successful grade school and middle school teams do not guarantee successful high school teams. Too high of expectations put on these kids. Watching them, they are an above average high school team in terms of talent, but not loaded or elite. It is what it is.

 

Secondly, before we bash the coach and say they fell down hill after the All A, is it possible the Brossart group places too mush emphasis on the All A and after a let down or one bad game, they have a tough time regrouping. (no, this isn't a bash of the All A). This is a legitimate question. I have heard from former players and coaches that many feel the All A has more importance placed on it than any other event. So the All A hits and the season is mentally over for the kids. It becomes very tough to remotivate the team. I've heard that from Brossart and NCC fans, coaches and players. There has to be something to it. Some can recover and some can't.

 

And the fact they went 6-6 after the All A...Could that possibly be because they got to the toughest part of their schedule in a time when they may have been trying to recover from the All A? I mean, most of the teams they were losing to are not chumps! Maybe they are just better teams.

 

I'm not starting trouble, just trying to give you a different perspective from an outsider. We always want to bash the coach first, but forget we are talking about young girls that have a role in this too. Girls are different than boys and emotions, distractions and high school life plays a bigger role than it does in boys sports. Boys can put things behind them and "just play ball" much easier than girls. I would say think about other things before bashing your coach online. And for some, maybe you need to look in the mirror and ask if your expectations were realistic for your child and this team.

Granted Mason was somewhat hot but they got crushed in their district final vs Bracken last week. Same Bracken team Brossart handled pretty easily in All A region. How did Mason turn this around so dramatically ? Also in late December Brossart beat Highlands pretty solidly but by February on its home court Highlands came in and beat Brossart . That's a disturbing trend. Coach Feldman starts pretty fresh next year with a new test

Lots of valid points here. I think this team met realistic expectations. Sure with a better draw they could have made it further in All A and regional. Schedule definitely went up after All A . Games were much harder and results showed. Let down after All A? I don't think so, I attribute it more to tougher competition. It was a good run of 4 years they maybe could have done a little more but basically got what they had to expect performance wise from the players.

I recall an Enquirer interview with Ron Dawn when he took over the NCC girls team and he said one of the biggest adjustments he had to make was how girls, after the game was over, were able to put it behind them - win or lose. He said after a tough loss, the boys would be crying their eyes out on the bus, but the girls - you couldn't tell from the bus ride home whether they had won or lost, because they were always the same. The girls played hard, they cared, and they wanted to win - but as soon as the game ended, win or lose, they let it go.

They beat Montgomery during the season, crush Mason Co in the district final only to fall flat to the same Montgomery team they just played. I was in a discussion at the start of the season and the concensus was that a team loaded with frosh -soph players rather than seniors seemed to always be a little more focused at the end of the season. College, jobs, and relationships intrude on most players as they get close to graduation. Just a thought.

Agree with this 100%! I would not want my livelyhood to depend on the performance of high school girls.

Why beat a dead horse when it's down? Or in this case a Mustang. Back to ADJUSTMENTS and facts. When Josh played a team twice in a season, he normally won the first game, but lost the second. Why because of adjustments he didn't make yet the other coaches did. Example NCC,Highlands,Scott,Campbell Cty. The only teams he would beat twice would be Calvary, Silver Grove and this year Scott. The talent level and expectations were high, but the results weren't. When you practice and play close to 30 games, don't you think you and your players know how to break a press. Not not bashing anyone, but Josh is not a big game coach. Never has and never will be.

So sorry to see Brossart's season come to an end. Good luck to the seniors as they move on.

I didn't bash coach sorry if came across that way, Like I said I liked him for the most part and as far as girls basketball goes they were loaded for an in coming class of freshmen. My daugther played B-ball year around and I know she is not who your talking about pretty sure as did Verst and Zigler. Sure me being a parent of that class I knew them all I put alot on them myself but I'm not putting all the blame on Coach girls do change over the years more than boys. But I do feel Feldman has had a problem with making adjustments in big games.

I think it's completely fine to question whether a coach has the ability to make game adjustments. There is nothing wrong with that. All coaches have strengths and weaknesses. I have no comment on whether or not he makes good adjustments or not. But I can say there is a lot more to coaching than on court adjustments and whether you win or lose. Developing the program, developing kids, creating gameplans that they feel will work, creating a challenging schedule the prepares them for the end of the season, even if it may cost you a loss or two along the way. And the most important thing...preparing kids for life as positive contributers. This one is forgotten quite often and is the most important thing. You can do all those other things and sometimes it just doesn't work out as planned. Making game adjustments may be his weakness, but you can't just look at that. One may say that if it weren't for him, maybe this group may not have been in a situation to be criticized for not making close game adjustments. I have no idea. But if he's doing a lot of things right and has a weakness in one, that doesn't make him a bad coach. I have no idea what the opinions are about the "other things", but he seems to do a great job from the outside looking in. Making in game adjustments is a talent. Some do a great job and some stick to their plan, feeling that if they stick to it, it will pay off. You do gamble when you go this route, because bball is a game of adjustments. But there can be strategies that work by having a complete plan.

 

I just don't think it's fair to judge a guy on a few instances that he lost. Some may think he underacheived because he had equal or better players to play with, but I'm not sure that was really the case. I think you need to ask, were the players he had really that much better than the tougher competition on the schedule at the end of the year. That's not a knock on any of the players. That's a question about the fans expectations for these players.
