gold sunrise Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 What can I say. GRC played their hearts out and almost pulled off the huge upset.
gold sunrise Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Suprised they are giving a all tourney team. For GRC , Riley Caudill, and Damion King.
Rez Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 All tournament team: Sexton-Bourbon Garrard-Paris King-GRC Caudill-GRC Cisero-Montgomery Thomas-Montgomery Walker-Montgomery
JokersWild24 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Sounds like a really nice effort for GRC.
Mustang Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Cardinals led 37-23 at the half. Please send us the tape.
TAC Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Goldie, thanks for the updates. Tough night for my lady friend. Cards and Cats lose.
polarbear98 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Sounds like your boys are starting to click at the right time. Good luck next week. Your boys can take a lot from this game even if it was a loss.
MNCM Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Proud of the Cards tonight. They may have fallen short, but this is another tough showing against a strong MoCo team. GRC could be a sleeper in the tourny to upset people.
Lawnboy13 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Cardinals led 37-23 at the half. Please send us the tape. WOW.....
Randy Parker Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Art Walker hit a 3 with a little over 3 seconds left to secure the win.
gold sunrise Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Cardinals led 37-23 at the half. Please send us the tape. GRC lead by as many as 16. 36-20 in the 2nd quarter. I knew that Moco would make a run and they did in the 3rd Q. Out scored us 18-8 in the 3rd Q. GRC did not fold and kept to the game plan. It was 61-53 with around 1 minute to go and Moco scored the last 8 points to win the game including two 3 pointers. GRC was under sized and out talented, but this team has the heart like no team I have seen at GRC. So very proud of all of them, especially Senior Riley Caudill. His sophomore year he had a injury mid-season and was out for the rest of the year. Same thing happened his Junior year. This year, as only one of 2 Seniors, he missed the first 6 games with a injury right before the season started. He made All District. I will add him to the top of my "unsung hero list". As stated above. Don't think any of the District winners will want to draw GRC. Congrats to MoCo and coaching staff. You did what you had to do to pull out the win.
The Professor Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I picked Montgomery in my contest on BGP and a few others I get in, but I almost went with Brossart. And Mason was another I thought of because the region will be played there, but turns out they didn't even make it out of district. Clark County can never be completely ignored, though. The Cards are always tourney tough.

The Professor Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Professor you would love this GRC team, not a lot of talent, always under-sized, but lots of grit and huge hearts. Being from Owsley County I can definitely identify with under-sized teams. A 6'2 kid is usually "Our big center". Lol.
Rez Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 This certainly was an exciting district tournament championship. GRC was very aggressive in the first half and King was dominant, getting to the basket consistently on the Indians. They also got several big threes from Riley Caudill, he hit at least 4 in the game. Poor ball-handling in the second half, and shot selection in the fourth quarter were what allowed the Indians to get back in the game. For Montgomery Co, there just wasn't much energy in the first half. They weren't aggressive on defense, or on the glass, and allowed GRC to control the game. The second half was a different story, as the Indians scored on the opening possession and followed that up with a quick steal and a bucket which really got the home crowd fired up. From that point on the intensity in the gym was constant. The Indians used the momentum to cut a 14 point halftime deficit to 2 within about 4 minutes. The game was back and forth from there with the lead between 2 and 6 for GRC until midway through the 4th when Art Walker hit a three to tie the game (the Indians first of the night). Montgomery Co took their first lead since 4-0 on a pair of Brian Wallace free throws. A Riley Caudill 3 gave the Cards the lead back, and it was extended on some free throws and another Caudill 3 to 8 points with under a minute left. A Piersawl 3 cut the lead back to five with 45 seconds left. A long Darius Jones jumper cut it to 3, and after a steal, a Piersawl free throw cut it to 2. Another Cards turnover with 13 seconds left gave the Indians the ball. Montgomery Co inserted Art Walker into the lineup. Wallace took the inbound pass, and as he crossed half court, the Cards sent a double from his left side. He drove away from the double team and kicked the ball to Walker on the right wing for the game winning 3 with just over three seconds left.
