The Cardinals owned the first 31 minutes but it took the Indians a minute to win it and avoid the upset in one of the most dramatic finishes in the history of the tournament. Art Walker’s 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds left gave the Indians an exciting 62-61 triumph over the Cardinals, capping an improbable 9-0 run in the final minute. Clark led 61-53 win 1:02 remaining but couldn’t hold on down the stretch.

 

 

Montgomery coach Jason Holland was equally happy with his team for “showing resilience” especially in the final eight minutes.

 

“We came out flat in the first quarter, flat on defense and not getting back (in transition),” he said. “We looked a little nervous. We didn’t execute anything on offense. I thought Clark’s kids played hard. They played at a different level than we did, especially in the first half. We didn’t match their intensity.”In addition to its hot shooting, Clark outrebounded the Indians 16-7 in the first frame.

 

 

Clark pushed the margin to 16 twice in the second quarter and led 37-23 at the break.

 

Damion King paced the Cards with 11 points in the opening half, scoring six in the first frame. Riley Caudill made four of five shots, including two 3-pointers in the first two quarters and followed King with 10. Braxton Greene came off the bench and scored nine for the Cards.

 

King finished with 17 points, while Riley Caudill added 16 for Clark. Caudill connected on four of Clark’s five treys in the contest. Caudill hit a pair of threes in the fourth quarter to help the Cards stay in the lead until the final decisive minute.
