Just looked it up. For reasons I can't quite understand, Thunder Over Louisville is on the 12th, three weeks before the Derby. But that's good for you. Then your concert at the Crum Center is on the 19th and the Mini-Marathon and all that jazz isn't until the 26th.

 

You're probably going to fine on hotel rooms. Anyplace near the arena should be fairly reasonably priced that weekend as long as you book soon.

 

Easter is on 4/20. They don't schedule Thunder on dates that conflict with Passover or Easter.

It's really amazing what's happened downtown in the last decade. It took some pretty shady dealings on a lot of fronts to get a lot of it done, but I find it hard to complain about the redevelopment.

 

Seriously, you can't go wrong looking for a place to kick back and drink between Fourth Street and the Arena District. Sports bars, nightclubs, microbrews and Irish pubs. There's a place for everybody.

 

And there are some amazing restaurants and bars in NuLu now too.

The walk is a little bit further and sort of away from the hotel, but I agree.

Good choice on the Galt House... And I'm pretty sure you can actually get to Yum from the Galt House without going outside now... I could be making that up though. :lol2:

 

4th Street is the cliche place for out of towners to go. It's a good time, but most locals I know don't really like it. Several different bars right there all together, all with different themes. Lots of great places to eat downtown within walking distance, too.

 

Yes you can get from the Galt House to the Yum, I just did it Sunday. It is a little tricky the first time but I am sure Galt House personnel will give you directions. Be sure and check out the fish in the bar at the Conservatory.

There's a cool bar in the Galt House, it's the connecting walkway over the street that connects the two buildings. Not sure of the exact name of it, but the bar itself is a fish tank, so I just called it the fish bar. :lol2: Either way, it's a pretty cool place to have some drinks without straying far from the hotel.

Sidebar has become a favorite of mine. Home to one of the best burgers you'll have. The spicy one is good and there is one called the ambulance chaser, both are great.

 

Girlfriend and I checked out Manny & Merle about a month ago. Great tacos. Although that waitress had NO idea who she was dealing with when we walked in. She suggested two tacos a piece...we proceeded to try EVERY one + two apps between the two of us.
