Can someone in Louisville give me some suggestions for a reasonably priced hotel that is within walking distance of the Yum Center or just tell me what's around there so I can check them out.

I am heading down in April to take my daughter and her friend to see Miley Cyrus in concert. Bringing an adult girlfriend with me as well so we can hit the bars after the concert.

Where should we go after the concert that's around there as well?

Thanks!

The two most convenient that I know of are The Galt House on 4th and the Courtyard Marriott on 2nd. The Yum center is in between them. There is a residence Inn on Jefferson and first. Those are the only ones that I know of.

There's a ton of bars and restaurants.

There are several bars on the corner of 2nd and Main.

4th street live is two or three blocks away. You can walk to all kinds of places from there.

If you're hitting the bars in the area around the arena afterwards, then your options are all over the place. I really think there's a bar for everyone down there.

Like coldweatherfan said, the bars in that area are concentrated at Fourth Street Live and in the area right around the arena.

Hotels are also plentiful but I don't know about pricing. In addition to the ones mentioned above, there's a Hyatt right by Fourth Street Live. There are other hotels that are probably slightly cheaper downtown, but they'll take you closer to the hospitals and a few blocks further from the nightlife. In April, providing it's early in April and you're not getting wrapped up in Derby Festival goings-on, none of the downtown hotels apart from Brown, Seelbach or 21c are going to be all that high.

If it's later in the month and you're getting into Derby Festival time, book it now or rooms will all start to move upwards of $200/night.

Update:

Just looked it up. For reasons I can't quite understand, Thunder Over Louisville is on the 12th, three weeks before the Derby. But that's good for you. Then your concert at the Crum Center is on the 19th and the Mini-Marathon and all that jazz isn't until the 26th.

You're probably going to fine on hotel rooms. Anyplace near the arena should be fairly reasonably priced that weekend as long as you book soon.

Thanks!! I booked a room at the Galt House which was the cheapest out of the ones mentioned so far.

I've always liked the Galt House. Stayed there once in a pretty nice little room. You couldn't be any closer to the Yum Center unless you were sleeping in the lobby. Galt House is a block away.

Don't know what kind of bars you're really looking for, but the Galt House is home to one of the best bourbon bars in town: Jockey Silks Bourbon Bar. They keep over 150 bourbons stocked. REALLY nice place.

If not into that scene, then just start walking around 2nd, 3rd and 4th Streets and along Main until you see something that strikes you.

Good choice on the Galt House... And I'm pretty sure you can actually get to Yum from the Galt House without going outside now... I could be making that up though. :lol2:

4th Street is the cliche place for out of towners to go. It's a good time, but most locals I know don't really like it. Several different bars right there all together, all with different themes. Lots of great places to eat downtown within walking distance, too.

I knew I wasn't crazy... It's always been TWO weeks before Derby. I'm like you, when I was told it was on the 12th I was like, "No way that's right..."

That weekend is going to be nuts with the Louisville football spring game on that Friday night and Thunder on Saturday.

For several years while I was still in school it was that way... Spring Game Friday night and Thunder all day Saturday. I loved it. Maybe sometime soon we can get another warm Thunder. If it's cold, being down there is miserable.

Sounds like Louisville has it going on!

It's really amazing what's happened downtown in the last decade. It took some pretty shady dealings on a lot of fronts to get a lot of it done, but I find it hard to complain about the redevelopment.

Seriously, you can't go wrong looking for a place to kick back and drink between Fourth Street and the Arena District. Sports bars, nightclubs, microbrews and Irish pubs. There's a place for everybody.
