punttheball Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Anyone? I have no idea. I assume this question is being asked because you saw it happen?
Sports Fan1230 Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 I have no idea. I assume this question is being asked because you saw it happen? Yessir.
punttheball Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Yessir. So I also assume that the AAU team that you saw was not a high school age team. I do not know the rules for coaches. Just trying to think through the question that you asked. I am interested in getting a clear understanding of the rule.
PurplePride92 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I was thinking a high school coach can coach an AAU team as long as no players from his school are on the AAU team. I could be mistaken though.
Northstar85 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I think he can as long as the team doesn't practice at the current school that he coaches. There also may be a max of how many players from his school team can play on his AAU team. Not sure though.
kyyank Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 How does that work with coaches at SOAS in the summer? I think I have seen coaches from CC coaching their players.

I do not know that offical ruling on this is, but I do know of a Ky. HS girls varsity coach who also coaches an AAU team with some of his players on,,,right or wrong it happens..

HS girls varsity coach who also coaches an AAU team with some of his players on,,,right or wrong it happens.. I think they should be allowed to. The rule is way too easy to get around. Just because the guy is listed as coach or acting as a coach at the AAU tournament doesn't mean he is the coach running the practices.
Sports Fan1230 Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 Maze Stallworth is the varsity head coach at Casey County. He also started Team Manimal AAU, & coaches the 16U team. I know of a few guys who have decided to not coach at the varsity level so they could continue coaching their AAU team.

Just because the guy is listed as coach or acting as a coach at the AAU tournament doesn't mean he is the coach running the practices. Yeah, I feel the whole AAU thing has a bad ordor to it...
ennam_iv Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 The rules are different from state to state concerning whether or not a HS coach can coach his own players and how many players from the same school can play together. In KY a high school coach can only coach his own players during a certain time in the summer. In Ohio a high school coach can coach his own players anytime. In Ohio no more than 2 players from the same school may be on a team. In KY there is not a limit that I am aware of for number of players from the same school playing together. Those are the only two states I am familiar with. And these are rules imposed by each states schools... these are not AAU rules
Tiger1 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 High School coaches can coach AAU teams, even their own players after the school year is finished. At least that it is how it used to be just a few years ago.
MentschTrachtGottLacht Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 ...... Mike Price, head coach at Oak Hills in Cincinnati, is a long-time AAU coach. As Ennam the 4th stated, perfectly legal in Ohio.
