Can a HS Varsity HC coach an AAU team?

......

Mike Price, head coach at Oak Hills in Cincinnati, is a long-time AAU coach. As Ennam the 4th stated, perfectly legal in Ohio.

He is a good coach too :)

Sticking with Shining Star coaches, here is another example. Mitch Shover, JV coach at Beechwood, would NOT be allowed to coach any players from Beechwood until later in the summer after maybe 2/3 of the AAU season were over. Is this time period called the "dead period?"

In Ohio coach Price could have up to 2 players from his HS team play for him.

AAU is beneficial if there are quality people running a quality program.

Depends on what you want out of high school. I want my kid to be as prepared as possible for varsity basketball when that day comes. Playing on a crap AAU team with a crap coach ain't gonna get it. If you want to use high school as a stepping stone to college then IMO you need to go to a prep school.

Plenty of really good AAU programs out there that will get you there. Plenty of bad ones as well. Same goes for high school. And the prep school route is a hell of a lot more risky than the other two...

There are good AAU programs. People need to be very careful with who they choose to roll with.

Do you know what the rule is in KY GT? Can you verify what has been posted in this thread?

Nope. Learned a long time ago in covering recruiting to focus on the details and not the minutia. State regulations fall in the latter category...

Maze Stallworth is the varsity head coach at Casey County. He also started Team Manimal AAU, & coaches the 16U team. I know of a few guys who have decided to not coach at the varsity level so they could continue coaching their AAU team.

I guess we'll find out the rules when AAU season begins. I believe the AAU season was over when he was named head coach at Casey County.
