Ballard, Scott Co., Hoptown 1-2-3 in boys’ hoops

Posted on February 16, 2014 by Mike Fields

Ballard heads into the last week of the regular season in the same spot it was before the season began: No. 1 in boys’ basketball. Scott County, riding an 18-game winning streak, is No. 2. Hopkinsville, which is 20-0 against Kentucky competition, is No. 3.

Top 25

1. Ballard (23-5)

2. Scott County (26-2)

3. Hopkinsville (23-2)

4. Trinity (23-4)

5. Newport Central Catholic (24-3)

6. Covington Catholic (23-1)

7. Wayne County (25-1)

8. Holmes (20-5)

9. Lafayette (16-8)

10. Knott Central (19-6)

11. Pleasure Ridge Park (20-5)

12. Montgomery County (23-1)

13. Lincoln County (21-5)

14. Warren Central (20-4)

15. Doss (17-6)

16. Bullitt East (21-5)

16. Elizabethtown (18-7)

16. Southwestern (20-4)

19. St. Xavier (20-5)

20. Henry Clay (14-11)

21. Iroquois (18-5)

22. Mason County (19-4)

23. Perry Central (19-6)

24. Henderson County (16-6)

25. Manual (15-8)

I'd have Hopkinsville over Scott, and Collins instead of Manual. But these look pretty good.

I think CovCath should be ranked higher.

I think Dixie should be ranked.

Six of their seven losses have come against teams in this top 25 list. Dixie also has wins over two of the teams listed.

I can't believe MoCo is only 12th.

Perry Central seems significantly low.

Even though I'm a homer, I can't believe that Mason County is ranked.

Montgomery County is too low. Holmes is too high.

I think the polls no longer matter…..it is almost time to find out for real!

I have to agree with you..

2 and 6 against top 25 teams and coming off of a big loss, should be at least in the top 10.......

I've got Mason Co in the top 25. Not so much they've earned it as they haven't done anything to prevent them from having a spot. I like the win at Lex Cath and the win at Rowan is decent. Worst loss is to a Johnson Central team that is not too far from being ranked.

I was surprised too, but glad another 10th region team made the rankings.

Any list that has Henry Clay in the top 20 is wrong.

Dead on Panda. The exhibition season is just about over. It's time to play for real.

Any list that has Henry Clay in the top 20 is wrong.

Very true.................
