kypride Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Thank you coach Petrino and coach Brohm, for signing more KY kids to scholarships than any other school. Kudos, and I pray the trend will continue with next years class under Louisville native Jeff Brom in charge.

Or do you want to have him take lesser-talented kids in the name of state pride?
Ram Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Do you want him to recruit the best players irrespective of home state? Or do you want to have him take lesser-talented kids in the name of state pride? He doesn't have to sacrifice talent. He can recruit in-state players and fill the left over spots with the other state's third and fourth tier players. Petrino has proven this in his first stint at Louisville. UK can't take 20 in-state players because "they play in the SEC". Why can't WKU take the in-state players? Edited February 11, 2014 by Ram

Let the coach go get what players he thinks help him win. If he's wrong, he'll be fired.

Why not just fill all of the spots with the best players?
PurplePride92 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Also, you say " and fill the left over spots...." Why not just fill all of the spots with the best players? Who is to say they didn't?
Clyde Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Who is to say they didn't? Ram can correct me if I misunderstood his post. He said can recruit in-state players "and fill the left overs spots with the other state's third and fourth tier players." I read that as recruit the best KY kids first and then go outside of KY. Maybe I misunderstood what he was saying.
bugatti Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Again, I'm fine with congratulating WKU or whoever for taking the most amount of Kentucky kids (which, it's not a contest) as long as you are willing to call them out if any of the kids fail to meet or exceed the expectations of someone they passed on simply because this kid lived in state.
uk#1fan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 WKU got the best QB in Kentucky! Also WKU destroyed UK when they played this past season. Looks like they know what they are doing!

Also, you say " and fill the left over spots...." Why not just fill all of the spots with the best players? My complete thought was for WKU to recruit the best that the state has, which would be the state's top tier players. Then, recruit what they can get from other states, which would likely be that state's third or fourth tier players. I think it has been deeply discussed that what the teams in Kentucky get are, for the most part, the other state's lesser talent. I contend that Kentucky's top talent is just as good as most state's lesser talent. I can't for the life of me understand why fans don't have any faith in Kentucky's in-state talent. Petrino seems to. At Louisville, the one year he was at WKU, and I speculate with his return to Louisville, he recruited Kentucky talent. I don't think he would do that unless he thinks they are good for his program.

EKU, which you've called out for not recruiting Kentucky, had 26 Kentucky players on their roster last season.
kypride Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Joe do you think its harder to find 36 FBS players or 26 FCS players?
LOOGY Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Joe do you think its harder to find 36 FBS players or 26 FCS players? No doubt FCS
AverageJoesGym Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Joe do you think its harder to find 36 FBS players or 26 FCS players? As sarcastic as your responses have been I said that I was finished debating this with you. But I will add this in: The roster that I went from included a lot of players at UL that were not even assigned numbers. I am guessing that those kids were walk ons but since I don't know for sure I included them--the Kentucky kids made up a significant percentage of that group. I did not count any of these players on EKUs roster that were listed without a number from last season.
