February 10, 201412 yr Seems to me there was a party looking at having Cincinnati put in a bid for the Summer Olympics a few years ago. About the only thing that I remember from that, was that they were talking about using the entire region to host the events. That way you'd have multiple, existing venues that were already in place to host the various events. So something like this: Basketball (Cincinnati) Gymnastics (Louisville) Track & Field (Columbus) Swimming (Indianapolis) Equestrian (Lexington) Wrestling (Dayton) and so on. It would also certainly help spread the hotel usage out amongst several different metro areas, but it would probably eliminate that "Olympic village" feel by not having everything centrally located.

Yes, Rob Portune was leading the way. After his failed attempt he was able to cozy up to Mike Brown and worked the Bengals stadium deal and after that was done he then went to work for the Browns....kind of convienant don't you think?

That was Bob Bedinghaus that worked the deal and then went to work for the Brown family. Todd Portune is a Hamilton County commissioner.
February 10, 201412 yr I visited Montreal a couple of summers ago and toured the Olympic park. Apparently hosting the Olympics was a financial disaster for the city of Montreal and the province of Quebec, but they do seem to have done a good job of continuing to utilize the venues that were built. Although currently it does not seem to get much use, the Olympic stadium hosted MBL, CFL, and Soccer events for many years after the Olympics. They still get revenue by allowing tours of the stadium's uniquily curved tower. The aquatic center which is adjacent to the staduim is still in use, and it was in good condition. The ice arena was also still in use, and I believe that is is open to the public at certain times for skating. The velodrome has been converted into what is now called the BioDome which is basically an indoor zoo of sorts. My kids loved this, and based on the crowd it is a very popular attraction. The high rise towers that were built to serve as the Olympic Villeage have now been converted to apartments which I understand are fairly high end. On another note if you are ever in the area, do not miss the Montreal botanical gardens. These are across the street from the Olympic complex. My wife wanted to tour these, and I was a bit reluctant, but I have to admit that it was one of the better parts of our trip. The gardens were amazing. We visited in July, probably would have not been so enjoyable other times of year.
