Avery and Covington have played JV all this season -- good thing, too, since Holmes' JV is minus four players since the winter break. Last year's JV team actually included even more (then) juniors than this year's; I know Herndon, Glover, Bell, Hill, and Pouncy all played some 2012-13 JV, and I think at one point Housely did as well. (Walter? Help me out here....) If there is any downside to Holmes' depth, it's the number of good players that wait in line. But they seem to handle it pretty well and it's a pretty nice problem to have, right?

I can answer the first part of the question: Jordan and Jalen Daniels, Fred Vickers, Damonte Conrad, plus Brandon Moore has been injured on and off. They only had two to spare until recently when Moore's ankle got better and a couple of freshmen were included -- you probably noticed that version of a full bench.

As an official, each team does have designated "speaking captains" that are determined during the pre-game captains/coaches meeting. We as officials, do tell them that as representatives of their teams, they may address any questions/concerns to the officials, as long as it is done in a respectful manner. However, with that being said, we are not going to listen to constant complaining about calls/no calls or any disrespectful actions (taunting, foul language, etc).

During the Covcath-Holmes game Bolden asked Pangallo "Mr Referee can you please tell me how that was out on me, I didn't touch the ball." Pangallo simply looked at him (knowing it was a bad call as both photographers next to me agreed)and when Bolden turned around to walk away Pangallo grinned.

 

I'll be surprised if Pangallo does a Holmes game next year.

Was standing right there when it happenedd and I stand by my comment 100%. Being in the stands, it was likely much harder for you to see the interaction. There's a lot of things said and done on the floor during games that people in the stands have no idea is going on.

 

Ask Dale Dawn. He saw the same thing I did and even looked at me and shook his head in disbelief. Watch Pangallo closely next time you are at a game he has. He is very arrogant.

 

And it's not ok for a kid to give a stare but it's ok for other kids to throw their arms up any time a call is made against them and yell "what?!" I've seen this happen in virtually every game I've seen this year atleast twice. A stare is no where near as bad as a kid making a scene like that.

My bad -- I didn't mean to divert the thread by asking the question about speaking captains. I was reacting to the earlier discussion regarding the tech called on Hill. Regardless of whether or not another thread does take shape, though, I'm still intrigued by the practice of appointing speaking captains when so few teams seem to use them as intended.

not to hi-jack the thread, but in the heat of the game, all players are going to question calls and not think "hey, I need to go find my speaking captain, so he can question this call." It's all part of maturely handling the situation.....I don't have any player on the floor asking me a legitimate question or asking me to watch for certain situations....but if any player then continues to complain or be disrespectful with "stare downs" or "theatrics", I am going to address those situations accordingly.

I really dont see what everyone's issue is with a kid staring after a call. Would you rather see the kid throw his arms up and yell in disbelief like I've seen some of the other "highly touted" kids do in this region???

 

I've seen players from Newcath, Covcath, Ryle, Conner, Dixie, Boone, and yes even Holmes react much worse than simply giving the ref a look. Over reaction by a lot of you, IMO.

 

Just because you see a kid 2 times and he gives the ref a look once or twice a game after a call doesn't mean that is his "MO" every game. I spoke with a couple assistants at the gym earlier and they laughed at the stuff being said in this thread.
