Pat "The Beast" Elliott is a great defender, but anyone who has watched Pendleton Co. enough knows Jon Elrod is the best defender for PC. He always draws the assignment of guarding the opposing teams best 1 thru 4 player.

I agree Elrod is hands-down the best solid defender PC has

Holy Cross's Paul Lible (sp?) is a solid defender. Held one of the most prolific scorers in NKY, Todd Jacobs, to 5 points in the first meeting.

Bovard is a very good defender. However, I'd say Brandon Brown is the best defender on that team. Bovard just gets more attention because he is the better overall player and gets more PT. I'd take both of them on my team.

Heck if he is one of the best defenders in the 9th and the best on his team explain to me why he didn't even see a minute last night? Explain to me why he is only averaging probably 3-5 minutes a game and thats being generous? I have nothing agianst Brandon. He is a hard worker and plays with heart. But he is still behind TJ, Tim, Bo and I would put Billy Schult ahead of any one besides them three.

 

IMHO, I might be biased but what Tim does for this team on the defensive side of the ball is some of the best Defense in the state. He can guard any teams guards man to man. He is averaging more than enough steals per game. He just has a knack for the ball and his hustle and speed makes him one of the best.

 

The one player I have seen this year do a wonderful job on good scorers is Liable from Holy Cross. He knows his role and does it well. I whitnessed him shut down Todd Jacobs. In that game he never gave TJ an inch. He did the same vs. Lenhof at St. Henry until Lenhof got hurt. I'v seen this kid for two years now and never thought much of him on the offensive side, but he can also shoot the 3. Don't leave him open on the perimeter. He won't leave you open.

Brandon doesn't get a shot because of his "struggles" on the offensive side of the ball, where, as you know, for months the Colonels struggled. He is a top notch defender, maybe,maybe a little below Bo and Timmy. I remember last year against Holmes he went and got a steal off of Duran in only two of three trips down the floor. In his first ever varsity action, in his first ever varsity game even sitting on the bench. And as for Brandon's offense, I think he is an excellent passer. But when you have a general like Timmy who can play 29 minutes a game, he needs to be on the floor. Next year Brandon will be big.

Brandon is a bit quicker than TJ and Bo. Also a very smart player. However a big part of his defensive ability is due to him not being relied on for much on the offense like the 3 other guards are.

Quickness is one component and all you mention have it and play good D. My point is that I want my guy who is defending the PG to re-direct him, be strong enough to body him up, and quick enough to stick with him.

 

Steals are misleading when it comes to one's ability to play D. Yes, they're nice but they have no direct correlation to one's ability to guard the PG and redirect him and get him out of his desired offensive set.

Come on give Scruggs some credit, he may be physical but his arms are so long. HC season has been based on great defense and 3pt shooting.

 

Your going to be hard pressed to convince me Voriees is a top notch defender as well as Tanner Johnson. Ben G. is their best defender. I would say Bueter is NCC's. Your going to be hard pressed to convince Schult is any better than Scruggs defensivly as well.

 

I understand Scruggs is not prolific on offense. But what HC has done against oppenents this year with Scruggs being their only real post presence until Will Eiferts late emergence, has to be one of the best stories in the 9th this year.

Mike Hester is the best on the ball defender in NKY this year, hands down.
