Am I the one person that believes that Trinity might just be the #1 team in the Commonwealth?

 

If not the only one you'd be one of the few. Why should they be #1?

I love that eastern Ky is well represented...... Congrats to PCC, KCC, Cordia and Hazard that's a great accomplishment.

They took Ballard to OT in a game they should have won, Ballard turns around and loses to PRP.

Having seen neither Lincoln County or the teams Holmes beat in NY I can't say you're right or wrong. However, I have seen Holmes play which I cannot say about Wayne. I know what they are capable of. I don't know what Caldwell Co is. As I stated they may be great. I just can't tell from their schedule.

 

I typically don't worry about out of state opponents, because it is very difficult to gauge their range. I wouldn't change where Holmes was ranked whether or not they won that game. Same for Wayne Co and Mater Academy.

 

Just for reference, Maxpreps has the team Holmes beat at 983 and the Mater team Wayne Co. beat at 993. Those would both be around 22 in Kentucky. Lincoln I think was 14 in Kentucky.

But ultimately Trinity's lost those two games to Ballard. I think you're right; some missed easy shots and middling performance at the free-throw line cost Trinity that game, but with the exception of that lone game against PRP, Ballard's faced some of the best Kentucky has to offer and come out ahead.

 

The Bruins hold wins over Scott County, Newport Central Catholic, Doss and Trinity.

That by itself would keep me from ranking them in the top 20. If it's February before you play a tough opponent I've got a lot of questions.

 

They could be great. Without eyeballing them I can't tell if they're even "pretty good" by their schedule.

Wayne Co is very good. Don't be surprised if they win all 3 of those games. They have 3 very dangerous players in Woods, Blevins, and Stearns. Can't just key on one of them.

I'm sure Wayne Co has a nice team but play somebody and you will earn respect.

 

And Maxpreps rankings are garbage outside of their Xcellent 25 national rankings. Most teams don't even use Maxpreps to report scores, therefor you get rankings that are way off when it comes to state rankings.

I don't think anyone from Wayne has any gripe that those throughout the state that haven't seen them play or that feel that they haven't played a tough enough schedule (re: Kentucky teams) are uncertain as to how good they are.

 

I've seen them play twenty games and I'm content to wait until we've played Southwestern again (1/31), Knott Co. Central (2/8), Montgomery County (2/9), W-Jess (2/14), Boyle County (2/18) and LexCath (2/21) for you to feel they've earned being in the top twenty. If they can't earn their keep against those teams then you can drop them out of the top twenty . . . but I believe they will hold their own.

 

Between Monticello and Wayne County I've seen a lot of great teams and I find this one unique, not in terms of raw talent (although they definitely have it) but in terms of their competitiveness and basketball IQ. Once you've seen them play you'll know what I mean.

 

If being undefeated doesn't become an obstacle to the point that they quit listening to the coach & staff they could have a very special season.

I agree with you about Wayne and the hatred they get. Holmes went through the same thing last year so you'd think the NKY folks would be a little more understanding. They cried all last year until Holmes was ranked where they felt Holmes should be ranked. What's different is now they are saying Wayne isn't deserving. Funny how that works. Once Holmes proved us wrong we admitted we were wrong. I hope they do the same if Wayne proves them wrong.

Holmes' 3 losses are to:

 

Long Island Lutheran (#33 Nationally, #1 in NY

Toronto St Michael's College School (Currently #1 NATIONALLY in Canada)

Covcath

 

Wayne Co isn't beating LI Lutheran or St Michael's...I say that with confidence. Too much size and athleticism across the board. Lutheran is on the same level as Ballard, if not better. St Michael's is #1 in Canada for a reason.

 

Have you seen Covcath this year to say with confidence that Wayne Co would beat them? Covcath is a very good team and playing as well as anyone in the state right now.

 

I'm not against Wayne Co and their success. I'm just not a fan of people saying they should be ranked higher or are on the same level as some of the teams ranked ahead of them when they have played nobody to prove it.

 

I really don't understand why of all the teams ahead of WC, you continually want to reference Holmes and their players whether it be a team or player thread. Keep underestimating them because of their loss to Covcath.
